Estate agent recs

Recommended Posts

I know the LL estate agents are much maligned but we are looking to sell our place, and wondered what people thought re who was good/bad.

I know some of the online ones have been getting good reviews BUT I think we'd prefer a bricks and mortar agent who can co-ordinate the viewings and all that jazz.

I have to wholeheartedly recommend No Flies - We tried a Lordship lane based agency first and moved to No Flies (who do coordinate all the viewings etc. - much better than anyone else did!) Not only did they sell our flat really quickly - but we had a relationship with them, they cared, they're lovely people and they were always available for us. They phoned us straight after every viewing, they gave us honest, great advice and they charge so much less than the agencies who have big overheads to pay. We had the most incredible service from them and the sale of the flat was so smooth.

Brendan and Tony are amazing. You won't get better service anywhere else! Massive recommendation from us. The Odell family

Over a few years I have sold via Pedder and No Flies, bought via Winkworth and Bushells (recently rebranded I think), and additionally once had KFH in to give a quote when I was selling.

Winkworth were good when I bought, but quickly lost interest in customer service once exchange had happened (i.e. when their fee was guaranteed!). Pedder (for my sale) were good on the customer service front initially, but I was soon passed on to a much more junior person, the branch manager who had come round to quote took his eye off the ball and the sale soon fell apart as no one scrutinised the buyer's situation closely enough.

The common thread with all the high street guys is also that they are constantly trying to push their other money makers - mortgage advise and solicitors - to the seller and buyers alike. I think that results in some conflicts that on a few occasions made me think they weren't fully acting in my interest.

I'd echo the No Flies recommendation. You deal with the people you initially meet, they don't have lots of other products to push, and they coordinate and do all the viewings as any bricks and mortar place does. They were also infinitely more responsive than anyone else.

    • I think it's just if you are over 75,  unless you have certain medical conditions. But of course that could be a money saving measure. Maybe ask your GP if they think you need one?
    • Yes, this is life imitating movie, isn't it! I wonder if the pope saw Conclave ? From what I have read about him, I think he would have approved of the outcome.
    • Sorry, I can't remember, I've been inundated with texts inviting me to have this jab, and I made the appointment ages ago. But I get them because I'm ancient, not because of any serious medical condition. Maybe contact the surgery and ask? Yes, I  got a sore arm with Moderna last year. I suspect it was Moderna I had this morning, so I've got the sore arm to look forward to. Hooray. I think it's Pfizer that you may now have to pay for?
