Usual argument prevails.

Its all about proportion and extent of criminal activity.

There was a Murder in The Orkney Islands, I understand, this year, the first for 24 years.

By living in certain areas you drastically reduce your chances of having your door kicked in, for example.

I never lock my car in my drive and when a friend is staying, I leave the back door unlocked and my side entrance is open, and yet I don't envisage any problems here in Bexley.

Point is I would be far, far more reluctant to do this in Walworth (where I was brought up) or 100 other Inner London Areas, circa 2009.

Just to put your minds at ease the guy who was shot dead prior to the news that this woman had been killed (condolences to her family) was a nasty piece of work and had a criminal record as long as your arm. This was a case of a targeted shooting whereas this latest murder is totally unrelated. The 1st due to criminal gang activity (yes crime happens everywhere and East Dulwich is no exception) and the 2nd who knows, the police are starting to investigate. They appear to have arrested people in relation to both incidents so that's good news at least.
