Cafe Provencal, Herne Hill - no service, poor attitude, slack staff

I realise this is a few days after the (non) event but anyway, it's been a slow day at work...

Went there Sunday on way to Brockwell Park, for a late pre-petanque breakfast.

Walked in said hello to the staff and found a table in full view of the till/coffee machine bit. Waited a few mins for it to be cleared and for us to be given menus, nothing happened...went to the mens room, came back, table still not cleared, no menus. Each member of the 3 or 4 waiting staff kept glancing in our direction but avoided coming over.

After 5 mins we got up and left, walked past one of the dopier looking lasses and told her we'd been waiting for over 5 mins for somebody to acknowledge us, her reply "Well I saw a tissue on your table so assumed you'd been served, oh well" and shrugged her shoulders as we walked out of the door.

Has anybody else been met with such indifference from a waitress?

It's very important to have a decent breakfast before attacking the piste. Calms the nerves and also helps to soak up the Ricard.

Although to get back OT, when you say 'slack' staff, do you mean uninterested or sexually promiscuous/loose moralled in the Jamaican vernacular.

It could be the difference between a warning off or a sudden booom in popularity.

I haven't been feeling myself lately, either, and I definitely haven't been feeling the waitress in Cafe Provencal. She was slack in the other sense.

Did you actually want to be served, When I visit a cafe etc I make a point of directly talking to the staff firstly by beckoning them and then verbally if they don't pick up the signal.

Yes, I did actually want to be served.

Perhaps that's where I went wrong, saying hello to the waiting staff instead of sitting down and beckoning them over like naughty children.

that's an excellent idea, Phil. there is a real lack of establishments with terrain.

International rules (yes, they exist :-) ) state that a terrain for international / national competitions should be 4m x 15m and for other tournaments 12 x 3 is permitted, but to be honest it's possible to play on any scrappy little ground up to about 10m in length and 2 or 3 across.

I'm on my way out for the evening but would love to discuss this with you more and have a look at the area you have to work with. Can you drop me a PM with your number on it, maybe we could have a chat face to face?

we move into the prince albert in 2 weeks , after will be doing a refurb which includes opening up into the back courtyard, I am pretty sure we will have a 3 x 10 area that we can box and turf or sand which is best? or shingle?
