Just want people to be aware out there, I was walking home by the Gowlett on Amott Road when I was attacked by two guys with hoods. Tried to run away though they chased me down and kicked me in the face and chest. Please be careful out there as they are looking for people with phones, wallets, etc..
Bear in mind that slightly better off places by no means guarantee that crime won't happen. Muggers seek opportunities where they think they will get the best results, unfortunately. Definitely report it to the police, I have personal experience of them using crime stats to change the operational organisation of policing when problems arise,

Really sorry to hear about this, we live opposite the Gowlett but didn't hear anything. What did they look like? Have you asked Jonny if he has anything on his cctv?

However Dulwichfox and Louisa to claim that Amott Road and environs is to be avoided, or even that this was the case 5 years ago, is patent nonsense. Your biggest danger is being offended by shouty rugger buggers.

Hi Tommy

I was drinking in the gowlett on Thursday night. Left at around 1 and walked down amott, adys then ondine. There were a group of 4-5 guys hanging around the school on adys road. I passed then at about 20m and was drunk so could not recognise them by sight but one definitely wore a white hoodie. If you reported it and please do then maybe there are some cameras around the school which might get some decent images. I don't presume they're involved but its possible.

Muggers will always come to nicer places as they think the people living there must have better stuff to take, they also assume that the people who live in these areas have a naivety to this type of thing and will therefore be a lot easier to mug and get away with it...

Sadly I have lived here all my life and know a lot of people who have had this terrible experience, I think the best and hardest thing to do is to stand up for yourself and not be put off going anywhere just because your worried about bumping into one of these muppets! :)

    • Not sure about changing hands but the Peckham Rye one is open and hasn’t had any random closures. Our child is very happy there but there was a resolved Ofsted complaint half way through last year.  Things don’t look good for the Devon nursery owned by the same company - looks like loads of issues with Ofsted which can be seen in its latest report.
    • I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.
    • Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
