Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has dropped his supplier of foie gras after embarrassing footage of ducks being force-fed was released on the internet.


The owner of the Michelin-starred Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, Berkshire dropped his French foie gras supplier due to animal rights concerns.


A spokesman for the Fat Duck said: 'We were shocked at the video and the conditions in which the ducks were apparently being kept.' The restaurant said the farm had shown the highest levels of animal husbandry when they inspected it.

Cant believe he was never aware of the cruel way Foie Gras was produced.

But he's now done the right thing.


Probably due to bad publicity and decent animal caring people boycotting places serving Foie gras

Its a possibility / probability he will find another supplier..


After all, the name of his restaurant The Fat Duck is a bit of a give away.


But

Word has reached us that celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has taken the ethical decision to remove foie-gras from all his menus ? both in the UK and Australia. This comes after years of campaigning by Viva! to educate chefs and the public about the way foie-gras is produced. Thank you to everyone who took the time to support the campaign!

... and yet the quote from the Fat Duck itself said, "We were shocked at the video and the conditions in which the ducks were apparently being kept". i.e. nothing to do with the traditional feeding process.


Which is unsurprising, as if you think someone like Heston Blumenthal didn't know how foie gras was made... well you'd be quackers!

Yes and that is another subject for debate..


This thread was to purely highlight Heston's decision to take Foie Gras off his menus.

There are already threads on Foie Gras.


As far as I'm concerned in this thread the matter is over.

Do you mean D?ner ? From the Turkish verb D?nmek To Turn


Well some are made on site.

They are made mainly from Lamb Shoulder and arranged in Slices on the central upright of the grill.


Some are produced in factories and have a smooth Pate appearance and may well contain chicken in it's makeup.


Any question on the ethicality of the meat used needs to be addressed on an individual restaurant basis.


Suggest you start your own thread if you wish to discuss Kebab meat.

I'm sure it won't be the first one.

I sometimes eat kebabs, but I never eat doner kebabs.


There are different kinds of kebab, Fox :)

More and more of the better kebab shops are making their own (much tastier and meatier) doner these days. I remember years ago (like late 90s) hearing on the radio a prank call to a supplier. They said they'd opened a new kebab shop and needed some cheap meat because funds were tight. The supplier immediately offered them past it's sell by date meat.


But surely no one buys a doner kebab thinking they're eating anything that's not a bit dirty. See also maccas / KFC etc.

Yes I'm fully aware of that and although street kebabs have been virtually banned in Tourist areas of Turkey.

Street D?ner Kebab is difficult to find as many outlets have been closed down like the mobile Hot dog Stands

in the West End were.


Traditionally Turkish kebab shops sold only one type of kebab So you would have


D?ner kebab shops,


K?fte kebab,


Shish kebeb Shops,


Iskender Kebab Shops


Adana Kebab shops


And several more..


I eat all of them..

You may of been referring to K?z as opposed to Koz


Well spotted but they are two very separate words..


Koz means.


1. a chance (to attack or to defend oneself); a trump, an ace up one's sleeve.

2. playing cards trump.

3. walnut.


K?z means.


1. ashes (containing a few live coals).

2. live coals.


Misspelling some Turkish words can be lead to some very embarrassing results.

Trust me ?


There is only one letter difference between the verbs To Pester and To F*** be careful :)

I do not need Google.. but the sentence does make much sense as a stand alone statement.


In Turkish there are verbs ie Demek To Say


and there are verbs that use an Auxiliary like Lanet etmek To Curse


Turkish uses Vowel Harmony so all verbs end with -mek or -mak according to the nearest preceding vowel.


the short infinitve -me -ma can be used to make commands Koy+me -- Put but is not always necessary


Koy -- Put familiar

Koyun -- Put formal

Koyunuz -- Put Very Formal.


So your statement 'i?in lanet ederiz ' literally ??


i?in = for


lanet etmek = To Curse


lanet ederiz = We curse / lanet ederim I Curse / lanet ederin You Curse / lanet eder He/She It Curses


Note. in Turkish the t changes to d to aid pronunciation ..


So your sentence means :- 'For we curse'


It only makes any sense in the context of what was previously said. There is a lot of that in Turkish.


That why there are no words for 'a' and 'the'

    • Why on earth is there so much interest, and negativity, after a 100 days of a Labour government when we had 1000s of days of dreadful government before this with hardly a chat on this Website?  What is it that is suddenly so much greater interest? Here's part of a list of what they have done in a 100 days - it's from a Labour MP so obviously there is some bias, and mainly new Bills so yet to deliver/put into law.  This reminds me of the US election where the popular view was that Biden had achieved nothing, rather than leading the recovery after Covid, a fairer tax system, housing, supporting workers, dealing with community unrest following high profile racist incidents,  So if we think Starmer is ineffective and Labour incompetent then we are all going to believe it? I do feel sick after seeing Clarkson on Newsnight, playing to the gallery.  Surely Trump must have a high profile role for him on the environment and climate change

Land and buildings are assets that don't make money until you sell them...it's what you do with them that makes money and farms are struggling to make money and so many farms are generational family businesses so never realise the assets (one farmers on the news said his farm had been in the family since 1822) but will have to to pay tax for continuing the family business. On another news item tonight there was a short piece saying the government has said that 50,000 more pensioners will be forced into relative poverty (60% of the average income) due to the Winter Fuel Allowance removal which will rise to 100,000 more by 2027. James Murray from the Treasury was rolled out on Newsnight to try and defend that and couldn't. You can't give doctors 20%+ and push more pensioners into poverty as a result.  The problem for Labour is the court of public opinion will judge them and right now the jury is out after a series of own-goals, really poor communication and ill-thought-out idealogical policies. And don't ever annoy the farmers.....;-)  
    • That % of “affected” doesn’t mean they are all in deep trouble.  It means this will touch on them in some small way mostly - apart from the biggest farms  it’s like high rate tax earners taking to the street when Osborne dragged child/benefit claimants into self assessment.  A mild pain  the more I read, the more obviously confected it is. Still - just as with farage and his banking “woes”, a social media campaign is no barrier to the gullible  what percentage of farms affected by Brexit and to what degree compared go IHT?  Or does that not matter? Thats different money is it?
