We asked Brian and team to paint the whole exterior of our sizeable house and repair a considerable amount of woodwork in the process.

We found them thorough, meticulous and extremely careful in everything they did. They completed the work to a very high quality, and have left the house in much better shape than at any time we have lived here. They took considerable care in covering and protecting things, inside and outside the house.

Brian himself constantly checked on the delivery of the work, and project managed it all very effectively. He also communicated very well to us.

We would recommend the team to anyone wanting a really diligent, professional and thorough job, and we will assuredly ask them to do subsequent jobs here.

From the moment Brian arrived to quote for our job (bathroom and spare room, whose ceiling was a bit of a state!), we knew we were in good hands. He carefully sized up the work we needed doing and, with a few carefully-chosen questions, made us re-think several of our plans - all in the cause of a good finish.

After we'd agreed the scope of the work, Brian video'd the job and within a few hours, he got back to us with a quote.

D-day came. We'd cleared out the spare room and the bathroom to allow Malachy to crack on. However we'd underestimated just how much prep Malachy would do to protect the rest of the flat. Every carpeted surface in the entrance hall was covered with plastic. There'd be a lot of filling and levelling and a lot of dust! But he ensured that outside of the areas being painted, the dust would be kept to a minimum.

This attention to detail augured well for the next week or so as Malachy worked patiently and diligently to achieve a fantastic job. The quality of the finish was nothing short of excellent.

But the best was to come. We were out of London the day the job was finished. Brian left a couple of voice messages to confirm that the work was done and we had our flat back to ourselves. We arrived back to find that not only had they cleared away all of the plastic dust protection, but they'd wiped and hoovered thoroughly into the bargain.

So, a truly professional crew. But, just as importantly, thoroughly likeable, decent and respectful people. They cracked on with the job and didn't get in the way. But when our paths crossed, it was a pleasure to have them in the flat.

Many thanks, Brian and Malachy, for a first class job at a reasonable price.

APD did a very thorough and professional job painting our hallway/landing and stairs. They had to deal with some dodgy plastering by some previous tradesmen and took great care to repair the surfaces to an excellent standard.

They also tackled some very tricky stairs that hadn?t been sanded or painted for decades - and did it very quickly.

And they kept the place as clean and tidy as possible despite what could have been a very messy job. I?d thoroughly recommend them.

I recently had my entire flat repainted by Brian?s team. From the outset he was punctual, professional and flexible in fitting in the work around his other jobs, but also realistic in the window of time needed to complete it. As I was moving out of my flat to live abroad and it was to be let to tenants it was really important to me that I could find someone reliable.

I am delighted with the work and the letting agents I have used to market my flat are highly complimentary about it.

I?m sure Advanced Painters of Dulwich are not the cheapest out there but they will deliver and I think the quote was a fair reflection of the work they put in.

Having previously had a couple of rooms painted by someone else who was recommended on this forum but who was on the cheaper end of the scale I can testify to the fact that you get what you pay for. I will be using Brian again in the future. He is very genuine and that counts for a lot!

Brian and his team beautifully restored our outdoor window frames, door, fascias and soffits this summer. The results, and the experience, exceeded my expectations.

The quality of the work was excellent and the team were a pleasure to work with - all punctual, friendly and communicative. The results are superb which reflects their attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble - they tackled unexpected discoveries along the way, taking the time to explain the issues and ensuring they were dealt with properly.

In summary, I?m very happy with the result (and the experience) and I highly recommend Advanced Painters of Dulwich.

We were promised a gleaming front of the house... and that?s what we got. Brian and the team did a very good job. In our experience they work diligently and patiently to produce a very high standard of work and finish. They had a very sharp attention to detail and a determination to make sure even the smallest tasks were carried out to the same standard. Brian was also very good at keeping us up to date with progress and replied quickly to any questions we had.

Brian and his team have just finished redecoration of our hallway & stairwell. It was a big job and included 4 flights of stairs, high ceilings, 2 windows, intricate bannisters and 10 doors. The team also had to deal with damaged walls, skirting boards in poor condition and specialist wall coverings. The team did an absolutely fantastic job - a beautiful finish on all the surfaces and my house now looks like new.

The preparation undertaken before painting was meticulous. It was clear from the beginning of the job that we were in safe hands. Brian and his team also worked hard to minimise disruption to the household (particularly important as I have been working from home) and nothing was too much trouble - a superb level of service.

I would not hesitate to recommend Advanced Painters of Dulwich - Brian and his team are highly skilled professionals and we will certainly be using them again in the future.

We recently used Advanced Painters having received their flyer through our door and seen the good reviews on EDF. Brian was very responsive and we were very impressed by the quality and precision of our painter, Des. We had a two tone scheme so the precision of the line between the two colours was very important and Des did an excellent job. Would highly recommend and we are already planning to use them again to paint some wardrobes for us.

Brian and his team have just completed an extensive redecorating job for me and I'm incredibly happy with the work they have done. Everything was completed on time, under budget and to a very high standard. But the most impressive thing was the high level of customer service, which is not a common as you would hope nowadays. The team are obviously passionate about their work and are dedicated to making sure you get what you want.

Malachi, who did the bulk of the work, was fantastic. Nothing was too much for him, and every problem was just a solution waiting to be found.

Brian kept a close eye on progress throughout, and even looked out for me when I had a bad reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine and had to spend a couple of days recovering...

Absolutely no hesitation recommending the team. I'm planning to have my kitchen refurbished next year and will definitely use them again.

We have just had our 1st floor tall windows repaired and painted by Brian and Malachi. The windows were in an even worse condition than anticipated, but they did a great job with replacing rotten wood, preparing and painting. Brian was very clear about what was being done and Malachi managed to work around the appalling weather we had. They were also nice to have around and cleared up well.

Our windows look pretty good!

We have no hesitation in recommending Advanced Painters of Dulwich and would certainly employ them again.

A big thanks to Brian and Maliki for repairing windowsills and rendering/plaster as well as painting the front facade of our Victorian house in Forest Hill. The house looks absolutely lovely from the outside and we are really impressed with the quality of work and finish. Internal painting and fixing of some walls was also done, which was excellent too. Brian's communication and advice throughout was very helpful and everything was done without delay. We are already in discussion about more works to the spare bedroom! Thanks again Brian.

Brian and his team have recently repainted the outside of my house plus hallway. Despite challenging weather conditions at times they have been responsive, communicative and done a fantastic and high-quality job. They also helped me sort out some unrelated issues in the house promptly.Very pleased overall.
I thought the wrecking ball might have been the only option for my long-neglected victorian terrace, but as luck would have it I gave advanced painters of dulwich a call and I am very glad I did. The attention to detail and craftsmanship in the preparation has created a very solid finish for the whole front of the house. You can believe now that the house has a chance to keep going for another 146 years maybe. Brian talks about gold and platinum finishes, he has very high standards - I was very happy with the bronze.
I'm sorry to say that this was not my experience of Advanced Painters. I contacted them for two paint jobs in August, asking for a quote. I was then inundated with videos of their work, but had to chase for the quote, which turned out to be almost ?3,000 for two relatively discrete jobs (these eventually cost me ?450 elsewhere, done beautifully). I can't speak to the quality of their work, but I was not encouraged by their prices.

Brain and team painted my entire flat. They were absolute professionals and completed the big job while I was traveling for just a week. They took care of everything and finished the job to a very high standard. They were also kind enough to return to touch up some of the flat once my new kitchen was installed. I would highly recommend Advanced Painters of Dulwich to anyone. Thanks again Brain and team! Luke M

    • Does anyone know when the next SNT meeting is? I am fed up with my son being mugged on East Dulwich Grove!
    • The issue must be everywhere at the moment. I was visiting a friend last week in Bermondsey, think we were walking  down Linton Rd & we dodged 7 dog poos. It was disgusting.
    • Thanks for your message — I actually took the time to look into what CityHive does before posting my original comment, and I’d encourage anyone with questions to do the same. Yes, the Companies House filings are overdue — but from what I’ve gathered, this seems likely to be an accountant or admin issue, not some sign of ill intent. A lot of small, community-based organisations face challenges keeping up with formalities, especially when they’re focused on immediate needs like food distribution. Let’s not forget CityHive is a not-for-profit, volunteer-powered CIC — not a corporate machine. As for the directors, people stepping down or being replaced is often about capacity or commitment — which is completely normal in the voluntary and community sector. New directors are sometimes appointed when others can no longer give the time. It doesn’t automatically mean bad governance — it just means people’s circumstances change. CityHive’s actual work speaks volumes. They buy most of the food they distribute — fresh produce, essential groceries, and shelf-stable items — and then deliver it to food banks, soup kitchens, and community projects across London. The food doesn’t stay with CityHive — it goes out to local food hubs, and from there, directly to people who need it most. And while yes, there may be a few paid staff handling logistics or admin, there’s a huge volunteer effort behind the scenes that often goes unseen. Regular people giving their time to drive vans, sort donations, load pallets, pack food parcels — that’s what keeps things running. And when people don’t volunteer? Those same tasks still need to be done — which means they have to be paid for. Otherwise, the whole thing grinds to a halt. As the need grows, organisations like CityHive will inevitably need more support — both in people and funding. But the bigger issue here isn’t one small CIC trying to make ends meet. The real issue is the society we live in — and a government that isn’t playing its part in eradicating poverty. If it were, organisations like CityHive, The Felix Project, City Harvest, FareShare, and the Trussell Trust wouldn’t need to exist, let alone be thriving. They thrive because the need is growing. That’s not a reflection on them — it’s a reflection on a broken system that allows people to go hungry in one of the richest cities in the world. If you're in doubt about what they’re doing, go check their Instagram: @cityhivemedia. You’ll see the real organisations and people receiving food, sharing thanks, and showing how far the impact reaches. Even Southwark Foodbank has received food from CityHive — that alone should speak volumes. So again — how does any of this harm you personally? Why spend time trying to discredit a group trying to support those who are falling through the cracks? We need more people lifting others up — not adding weight to those already carrying the load.
    • Well, this is very disappointing. Malabar Feast  has changed its menu again. The delicious fish curry with sea bass no longer exists. There is now a fish dish with raw mango, which doesn't appeal. I had dal and spinach instead, which was bland (which I suppose I could/should have predicted). One of my visitors had a "vegetable Biriani" which contained hardly any vegetables. Along with it came two extremely tiny pieces of poppadom in a large paper bag.   This was embarrassing, as I had been singing Malabar's praises and recommending we ordered from there. The other mains and the parathas were OK, but I doubt we will be ordering from there again. My granddaughters wisely opted for Yard Sale pizzas, which were fine. Has anybody else had a similar recent poor (or indeed good!)  experience at Malabar Feast?
