Vote Art

Recommended Posts

The UK goes to the polls on 7th May and to celebrate, Vote Art comes to Peckham Platform!

This spring, a major billboard campaign will be launched across England, with 10,000 postcards, a website and social media all combining to celebrate the creativity of the nation, to urge people to vote and to bring the value of the arts and culture to front of people?s minds as they enter the polling booth.

Bob & Roberta Smith, Jeremy Deller, Janette Parris and Fatima Begum have each created a brand new artwork inspired by the word ?VOTE? for display on billboards across England. A fifth artwork will be a design chosen from an open national competition for 18 ? 23 year old first time voters. Each billboard site will be close to galleries, museums or cultural venues, and 10,000 postcards of the artworks will be printed. The exhibition at Peckham Platform will capture the spirit of this project by displaying the original works alongside highlights of the submissions to the nationwide competition for young artists.

?Vote Art is an arts project that has been inspired by the importance of the upcoming general election. If you?re an artist or interested in culture, you care about expressing yourself. Surely one of the most basic but vital forms of self-expression is the act of voting and making a choice about the people who lead the country. We hope the artwork created will inspire people to vote, to think about creativity and to appreciate some outstanding creative practice in the process.?

The campaign is entirely independent of any political party. It is being supported by the Arts Council and the Art Fund.

Please visit Peckham Platform to take part in our free placard making workshops, where you will be screen printing and sign writing.

    • As a one off thing, I'd 100% recommend going to Alexander Does Supper, if you like food! It's up at Dulwich Art School, and you do some life drawing, have an amazing three course meal, and then watch some burlesque! I met some great people from the local area, and it was something different that I would never have done otherwise. https://www.instagram.com/alexanderdoessupper https://www.alexanderdoessupper.com
    • No, signs of sense and scrutiny of "leaders" not knowing the impact of what they have done, so much so that every citizen in the UK will suffer financially as a result of an incompetent, incoherent, unhinged Govt that's impact is effecting every citizen in the UK. Where things were being turned around by the last lot, this lot has already compromised all that work in its first 120 days in power. You may not like it but that's the truth.  We are never going to agree and actually Reeves, Rayner and Starmer need to go, like yesterday.
    • Worse than gb news   Signs of unhinged minds
    • This is why you are not the chancellor! Rachel Reeves won't be going anywhere until either she fixes things or Starmer needs someone to blame!
