Hi, my mum has decided that she really wants to knit a blanket for my cousin's baby - and as she's not very well (my mum that is) she wants my help in finding the pattern and wool and needles etc. I have found a shop that she likes where I can buy whatever materials are needed but we are still struggling to find a suitable pattern. Not because there aren't loads available, just because my mum is, well, very particular. She doesn't like any of the patterns in the many magazines I've bought and she doesn't like anything I've found online either.

So - can anyone please recommend a really simple knitting pattern - in her words it should be "simple to knit, attractive to look at, just a little pattern in it." She doesn't want it to turn in to a big palava - it will help her to concentrate but she won't be able to focus too much or for too long - so something simple and straightforward but not boring...

Anyone? Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you...

There are a couple of patterns I like in a book called Natural Baby Knits. I think they are both made as single pieces so no sewing required afterwards. If I can find the book I'd be happy to lend it to you for her to have a look at.

And, whilst we're on the subject of knitting: I'm trying to free up some space at home and have a bag of toy wool in all sorts of different colours if anyone would like to take it. Also, a bag of toy stuffing. All for free. If anyone would like it, please let me know.

    • Yes, it would be great to see them nationalised. Along with the other water companies they seem to have a great business model: -submit a 5 year plan to the regulator asking for yearly price increases to cover the cost of improving the infrastructure and get them to approve it - carry on paying handsome dividends to shareholders and eye watering salaries to senior executives  - fail to achieve the infrastructure targets at the end of the five years, make some excuses and draw up the next plan Magic!
    • Avoid KFH. Agree with other comments that it is best to talk to lots of people.  Also, (not particularly related to the above agent), I wish I had read the reviews a lot more, rather than relying on numbers.  Depending on whether you are renting, letting, selling or buying the reviews often differ a lot depending on the relationship you have with the agent and it is worth checking whether the good/bad reviews match your situation.
