Amelie -

leases I've seen that stipulate opening hours would usually be minimum hours and times, usually set by landlords that have some kind of interest in guaranteeing that, like a shopping centre or retail park. But I've never seen one that stipulated closures, other than alcohol licences or special residential aspects. Bank Holiday closure I'd have thoought was habitual, as it is in most "villages"; Easter Sunday is still the only day you can't legally open a shop, even then it has exclusions.

Anyone know for sure? Karter?

Amelie you seem to know a bit about commercial sites in LL - can I pm you and buy you a coffee sometime?

There is no stipulation on opening hours on LL.Shops can open until 8 if they wanted too.Amelie there are many freeholders on ll who do not answer to landlords. The reason LL shops are closed on bank holiday and new years day is because retailers also need a break. Most of the independants on LL are family run and the once or twice a year closure can be forgiven.

Hi Monica. Quite a few people have said on this forum that it might be nice to have Northcross Rd pedestranised at weekends (although would have to look at the issue of locals needing access to their roads). Do you know what LL/Northcross traders think about this idea?

or maybe because they,d like to go home in the evening

Rather than *longer* opening hours, some shops may find it beneficial to have slightly different opening hours. e.g. opening slightly later, closing slightly later, on one or some days. Though if you're expecting deliveries can be tricky.

On the other hand, if many or all did on the same evening, everyone would benefit - people then don't have to rely on knowing individual shop hours. Maybe some of the 'ED community' money could be used to develop/publicise that?? And perhaps business owners could chip in by having any promotions they run (e.g. customer events, meal offers, happy hours, whatever) on that day.

I was merely suggesting that there was a possibility that the shops on LL do not open late for a reason, not stating it as a fact. Monica has now clarified that it is in fact a matter of choice by the shopowners. I have however seen commercial leases that do stipulate opening and closing times, which is the point that I was making. It would be nice if people on this forum would not jump down one's throat merely for proposing a theory.

Hello Amelie

Sorry if I've given any offence - closing by dictat seemed an odd idea and I wouldn't want you to think I had anything personal in querying it online. You seem to know a good deal about business gossip on LL - if you are in the mood I'd still like to buy you a coffee and have a chat.

Best wishes

    • Wouldn't it make more sense to ask the guy who posted the rumours for the source of the information? The Crown & Greyhound refurb was a big job - not surprising that it took longer than just a simple repainting. But renovating the Grove would be even bigger because it's totally wrecked, and there's a shortage of skilled labour and much more expensive materials now...
    • Rather bizarrely, I received a text from TJ surgery offering this service. To be clear, no data was asked for in the text so I don't suspect a scam but surely this is dodgy? Where does my DNA info end up and who would have access? I'm going to the surgery on the invite date to ask precisely this.

    • Hi, does anyone know of any charities or companies that can come and clear your house to be donated for a good cause? I know the British heart foundation does but wondering if there are others? We are moving overseas and hoping to donate most of our belongings in one swoop if we can! Thanks.
