Virgin Media Broadband down again!

Not sure how widespread this is - but for the 2nd time in 2 weeks when we've wanted to work from home the broadband has suddenly dropped about 10am and the recorded message says it'll be back "by 3pm". Last Weds it was back by 2pm at least but still, 4-5 hours lost work is not acceptable.

Recorded message says they're "making improvements to your broadband service in x postcode" - helpdesk person says it's a cable issue that's being fixed - so not even consistent with their messages. If it is the former, surely they know about more and more people working from home these days? Couldn't they prioritise work on weekends or early mornings/later evenings? If it's the latter, why has it happened twice so close to the last time?

We're in Ondine Road - anyone else down today?

They're phoning me back when it's up (hilarious answer to my question "when will I know if it's back incase it's back before 3pm" - "the lights on your modem will stop flashing" - are people really supposed to sit infront of their router watching...?!?! sigh....)

They're helpful aren't they KidKruger? I asked for a goodwill gesture (as this happened last week too) and think I'll get ?2-?3 back (better than nothing I guess). Strangely the wifi was back fairly quickly - however the call I requested (asking for them to let me know so I didn't just wait for 3pm) hasn't happened yet - so pretty unimpressive.

They did suggest if wfh was regular I should get a business account (I did ask surely the same wires would be affected!! answer wasn't exactly clear). We only do it occasionally though so no need for a business account.

Admin - not sure why this is moved to ED businesses section? I'd say it was a general ED issue. (If I was looking to see if anyone else had the same problem, I wouldn't look in the business section?)

i'm on ondine as well Ginster and getting increasingly disillusioned with virgin - we have fibre optic, are you on that too? i occasionally work from home too and although most of my recent issues have been in the evening, i'll be wfh more in coming months so will be royally pissed off if it keeps dropping off!

    • Most charity shops will take rags for textile recycling. I’ve also donated to Christopher’s, Shelter on LL and Scope in Camberwell. The only one I’ve known to refuse is the Oxfam in Herne Hill.
    • We hired Hanson &Co to handle painting, floor sanding and general renovation work before moving into our new home, and we were very happy with the results. Andras and his team were fantastic to work with—professional, reliable, and efficient. We've since reached out to them for additional projects and we highly recommend their work!
    • Lost oyster card in black and green wallet somewhere between the bus stop at ED station, the bus and the train from Denmark Hill to Clapham Junction. Very annoying not last because I love the wallet. Link to the wallet;    Black with Green Card Holder Scamp & Dude
    • I have always taken mine to the main St Christopher's shop, in a bin bag clearly marked "Rags". They have always accepted them. Clean items only, obviously.
