Sounds to me as though Bono wasn't taking it as seriously as either you or the music insider.

Calling out 'Dark' and 'Light' to each other? 'Needless to say this upset Bono'? Why would it?

A seasoned rocker who has endured far worse abuse than that I would think. Would it be taken seriously?

'El Diablo' he referred to the chap as? Surely he was having a Turkish?

Edited because I finaly got the joke. Considered deleting the whole thing but then realised that I don't want to attempt to shove my head up my own arse that much.

Also looking at it, my quite prim response makes me chuckle. In fact I'm having a Turkish as I type.

I can listen to only 3 U2 albums (Achtung Baby, Zooropa and some of the much-maligned Pop)

Bono the persona is beyond annoying

Bono the person seems more than aware of this and seems happy to dump his worst character traits into the persona, whilst remaining pretty solid himself. There are facets basically.

Chris Martin just seems to be Chris Martin. WYSIWYG. One dimensional.

Is the title to this thread not, ?In this thread, were are hating bono??

Even with the bad spelling it quite clearly does not say:

?In this thread we are having a level headed discussion about the relative benefits of U2?s discography.?

or,

?In this thread we are developing an objective character expos? of Paul David Hewson and his stage persona Bono.?

I am reporting you all to the Administrator and requesting that you are sentenced to a 3 week ban from SE22 or a packet of laxatives.

I didn't mind Parachutes, and Chris Martin seemed like a nice chap back then and came across well in interviews.

Then he started to believe the hype, got himself an A list wife (not that I've ever been able to stand her) and hung around photographers so he could punch them.

So basically, what Keef said.

Do you mind ?

if you fancy starting a " Why Chris Martin is a nice bloke behind the dull music" thread, then feel free...

then I can chip in with Snorkys "why hearing Coldplay makes me want to go postal with semi automatic weapon outside William Rose's on a Saturday morning" thread.

No bono bile, then dont bother posting - take your mediocrity and Guardianista views elsewhere

I don't buy it. Fair enough he can develop a stage persona, and even extend this as far as interviews, etc.

But the rest of it? The polical campaigning... appearing at Labour party conferences, whilst moving his considerable wealth offshore to dodge tax. I've no time for him at all.

I have a long memory. I actually remember the days when there was no corporate sponsorship for music (yes, I'm that old). The first band that I followed that went out and got sponsorship was The Stones (wouldn't you know it would be the Stones to go after the money). Volkswagen. It felt really weired at the time, which probably says something about how old I am, but we?re not going to talk about that right now. NO, WE ARE NOT. Someone asked Bono if he would ever consider getting sponsorship for U2. He replied, and I'm slightly paraphrasing, "it's a sad day when rock n'roll needs to bend over and take it up the arse from a corporate". Anyway, U2's impending tour is being brought to us by Blackberry. How very thoughtful of them. Times have changed of course but still.

U2's official concert packages went on sale this morning. This means you get dinner, gig, drinks. Wembley comes in at ?495 a pop. Just so long as you're looking out for the fans Bono, that's the main thing.

All this and I still can't bring myself to hate him. So I guess I'm off topic and await chastisement from Brendan/Snorky (has anyone ever seen them in the same room?).

On the subject of guys who need a reality check, let's not forget that Springsteen got himself an exclusive Wallmart deal last year. He's since apologised for it (after much protest from his fans and silence on his part). Really and truly, do these guys never look in the mirror and say to themselves "I'm as rich as God, there's just no need".

I'm with you lot - hate the self-righteous git.

No doubt you've all heard this, but it's still one of my favourite jokes:

At a U2 concert in Ireland, Bono asks the audience for some quiet.

Then he starts to slowly and rhythmically clap his hands. Holding the audience in total silence, he says into the microphone:

"I want you all to think about something. Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies."...

Then, from within the silent crowd, a voice yells out:

"Then fookin stop clapping, ya c*&t!"

    • I've used Mattress Man twice, can thoroughly recommend. It is worth investing in a good mattress (£400 plus), since you spend a lot of time in bed and they will last for years.  I favour a firm well-sprung mattress which I find gives good support.  Don't forget to turn your mattress regularly: side to side every couple of months, and top to bottom at least once a year.  This will ensure even wear.
    • Thanks Sue, its definitely the whole mattress needed!   Thanks for this!
    • Lynne, I do sympathise having gone to Kings A&E on 6th December. I sat on a chair for 7 hours followed by lying on a trolley for 11 hours before having emergency abdominal operation. I was in for 4 nights. Complaining would not have changed things as the staff were evidently working flat out and the place was mobbed. Ever since,  I thank my lucky stars that it happened when it did because within 2 weeks the whole of Kings was swamped by the impact of Covid, Flu' , RSV, Norovirus, etc etc I do hope you are recovering well
