Show me the money ! Woop woop - well done Jimmy.

Well done Mick, think he's down there today, lucky sod.

Thankfully my 11/1 in the first race of the meeting has kept me up a few ? including my 3 bets today. But form post that has been terrible, annoyed about Riverside Theatre as I did plan on doing that - shoudave, wouldave, coudave, etc.

COME ON LONG RUN. That hill will be too much for the old legs of KS methinks

I've just set up a Cheltenham league - EDF Betting Matters

The pin is 8034739

To join in you just need to go to the website and choose a stable of 3 jockeys and 3 trainers, fill in your personal details and once accepted you can join a league. You can select up to 3 stables, I've only done one for now, will probably add others nearer the time...

Notes passed on to me - from a Cheltneham discussion at Europa Hotel Belfast - for anyone not doing their own research.

SUPREME NOVICES? HURDLE

Consensus was to avoid My Tent on Yours, if not to lay him. Of the rest, Dodging Bullets was the vote of Gordon Eliott, Richard Holmes, Paddy Wilmott and Brian Graham. Paddy also likes River Maigue, Mark Winstanley and Gary O?Brien liked Melodic Rendezvous.

ARKLE CHALLENGE TROPHY STEEPLE CHASE

Whole panel couldn?t see Simonsig beaten, Paddy reckoned by up to 15 lengths.

CHAMPION HURDLE CHALLENGE TROPHY

Very mixed views. Mark think is Grandoeut will beat Zarkandar, Richard topped Rock on Ruby, Paddy would want 3/1 to be going forHurricane Fly and would want as bad ground as possible. Really depends on ground ? if it dries, Grandouet or Rock on Ruby, if it softens then Zarkandar or Hurricane Fly.

NEPTUNE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT NOVICES? HURDLE

Whole panel loves Pont Alexandre, some tipping it as nap of the week and saying to get on it early as it will shorten. Rule The World seemed to be the best in market without. Taquin Du Seuil needs softer ground and will have AP on board, avoid The New One.

RSA STEEPLE CHASE

Question marks over Dynaste at its short price and improving ground a worry for it. Also avoid Boston Bob, not the trip for it. Rocky Creek won?t run. Richard and Paddy both mentioned two massively overpriced outsiders ? Lyreen Legend or Houblon Des Obeaux (get one early before they shorten) and didn?t have too much bad to say about Hadrian?s Approach.

QUEEN MOTHER CHAMPION STEEPLE CHASE

Sprinter Sacre a moral cert, if you?re doing a bet do it for it to win by at least 15l. Somersby might be the only one to run on for a place, and so betting it e/w or in market without not a bad idea.

WEATHERBYS CHAMPION BUMPER (OPEN NH FLAT RACE)

Gordon and Mark both really liked Blackmail who has been working well and needs good ground. Get on early to get a good price. Paddy also liked Regal Encore; The Liquidator might be a good each way. Johnny O also got a mention. Of those at the top of the bottom I like Union Dues. Watch out for the Outlander who will skip the Festival to run at Punchestown.

WORLD HURDLE

No value in Oscar Whiskey (only Mark liked him), JP and his yard are talking up Get Me Outta Here, Paddy and Richard liked Smad Palace e/w. Paddy also mentioned Trustan Times at a big price. I?ve a sneaky suspicion for Solwhit who the panel agreed was probably the classiest horse in the race.

JCB TRIUMPH HURDLE

Our Conor has been working well, and Gordon likes him too. Mark likes Far West and Rolling Star, Paddy also likes Rolling Star as he questions whether the Fav will stay. One of the first 3 will win, backed up by stats over recent years. Which of the three ? opinion varied.

CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP

Gary wanted to avoid Bob?s Worth, but Mark really wanted to bet on it, as did Paddy (probably two best on panel). Ronan reckoned Bob?s worth should be 7/4. Avoid Captain Chris, and First Lieutenant could place though should really go for the Ryanair. Generally, Bob?s Worth over Sir Des Champs.

OTHER PICKS

First Lieutenant ? Ryanair, cert to place, NRNB.

Alderwood ? Last race, 8/1, same mark as last year, Couch?s tip.

Poquelin ? Byrne Group Plate. No worse than good or soft. Richard coulnd?t emphasis this pick enough.

Salsify ? Foxhunter?s Chase. Paddy?s pick.

Pont Alexandre (above) was Counh?s and Gordon?s nap of the week.

Bonisland (entered in 4 races) ? Gordon likes NRNB here.

Champagne Fever ? NRNB and E/W ? entered in a few races.

Captain Conan (Jewson) ? according to Couch and Paddy.

Module (unknown race) ? according to Paddy.

Fruity O Rooney (JLT) ? Richard.

Battle Group , K Bishop horse, Portney Lodge race?? ? Richard, NRNB.

Nacomo Beau (sp.) (Pertemps) ? Richard.

Petit Zig (Fred Winter) ? Richard.

Mary King?s orse in the 4m race (Paddy).

Inis Island (entered in Coral and Albert Bartlett) ? so NRNB. Paddy?s tip.

Green Belt Elite ? entered in 2 races so take NRNB, tipped by Paddy and Richard.

Tonar D?Oudaries ? Gordon tip

Council, Fred Winter? Gordon tip

Druid?s Nephew ? Last race of First day ? Counh tip.

Uncle Junior e/w in Cross Country.

BETS BEFORE / SUPPLEMENTS

JP?s son owns a horse called Sharian (sp?) that will run at Sandown this week, Colin Murphy, back for Cheltenham if it enters also.

Barney?s Honour in Downpatrick this week.

I'm in....

Stable Name: Hoop Dreams

W P Mullins 2 D Pipe 6 C E Longsdon 18

Ruby Walsh 1 Tom Scudamore 7 Paddy Brennan 19

I'm in a hotel in Cheltenham, it's impossible to move in town without bumping into an Irishman. Restaurants are full, taxis scarce and there's even a mobile lap dancing club with courtesy bus!

Not even ere for the racing - family matters instead. However, today has dawned bright, crisp and cold. Covers ere on the course last night - wrapped up well it would be a great day out on the course today.

Edited to add: 5 minutes later and it's snowing!

I'll do my best

C&P from someone who knows more than me:

Day 1

Race 1 - Supreme Novice Hurdle. Couple of points - this is an absurdly hot race & Hills are paying 5 places each way which should be availed of. The one I am going for here is Jezki - he is 5/1 and I am happy to take that. Some negatives being that he disappointed last year but he was young and unfurnished and taking him to the festival was going to the well once too often. The other being the length of time off the track but as he is running on the same ground I can forgive it (i.e. long gaps can see horses running on diff ground but this time he runs on same ground).

Race 2 - we are down to 7 runners so probably no bet. I have backed Avrika Legionaire @ 8/1 EW with 3 places which is a good bet. With only 2 places the shine is gone off it. I would be very negative on Overturn. Simonsig is a worthy fav and the one to beat but he is by no means unbeatable - if you are looking for a touch of value then you can do worse than AL.

Race 3 - I have covered this already - I advised Loch Ba @ 20/1 a few days ago. He is now best priced 12/1 so I hope you took the value!!

Race 4 - done to death by now but I am backing Zarkandar. This gluey ground will play to his strengths.

Race 5 - Outlaw Pete or Bostons Angel but neither for a big bet or to get excited about.

Race 6 - I have backed Une Artiste each way here. I wouldn't attempt to knock Quevega but UA is hugely progressive, has won twice at the track, will enjoy the ground and trip - basically she has a very progressive profile and we don't know how good she is so if anything is to beat Quevega it will be her - I cant see her out of the 3 anyway so looks a good each way poke. There is only so long we can take on trust that Quevega can continue to return in the same form - age is the thing that can blunt that ability and at her current odds that is alot of trust to be placing on her.

Race 7 - I like Hazy Tom but The Druids Nephew looks very well in.

I'm starting off with a ?200 float, with a contingency of ?50 if things get a bit messy and I still want to bet on Gold Cup day.

Amount for each bet will depend on how things pan out...

1-30 Champagne Fever @ EW (probably start off with a ?5 EW)

2-05 Simonsig @ Win (No value but my biggie for the day, ?enough to cover if all other bets lose, say ?50)

2-40 Fruity O?Rooney and/or Our Mick @ EW

3-20 Not planning to bet on this race either, but may be tempted if previous bets do well and back Grandouet @ EW

4-00 Not planning to bet on this race and won't be tempted.

4-40 Une Artiste @ EW (probably ?5 EW)

5-15 Not planning to bet on this race and won't be tempted

    • I recommend you stick to GB News following that last comment.  Hate crime is still a crime.  We all think that we know best.
