Hello all

I've just been issued with a PCN for 'entering and stopping in a box junction when prohibited' in Vauxhall Bridge Road/Rampayne Street. I don't exactly remember the incident but assume that I was 'pushed' forward into the box junction via the traffic lights, assuming the car ahead of me would get further than it did so I was stopped in it for a matter of seconds. i know this is a common offence (and one you can often do little about) so I know I don;t have much chance of winning but thought I'd for any advice. Many thanks.

It's very rarely unavoidable.

The rule is clear - do not enter a yellow box unless your exit is clear (i.e. there is a full car's length sized space to get into on the other side) or if you are turning right and your exit is blocked.

The only time it is unavoidable is if you are cut up in the box, i.e. someone overtakes you - either side - and takes the space directly in front of you.

First, ask for the evidence. A photo can never be evidence of a yellow box offence: they need a video showing that you entered the box with no exit available AND became stationary - remember that any lane can be available to you, not just the one you are in.

If that shows you contravened the law, then unless you can swing a technicality (i.e. incorrect road markings) then it's time to stump up the dosh.

Lots of info online if you google it.

    • All the parents looking after their kids instead of skiving from their meaningless desk jobs might mean it's quieter on here. Still, at least it gives free rein to the bad-tempered, long-winded pensioners that begin their posts "having resided in Dulwich for a not inconsiderable number of decades, may I be so bold as to suggest..." 😉

    • We have been patients at Sternhall Lane for years. Our experience has generally been incredibly positive with speedy responses and very helpful staff. We are generally fortunate to get a same day appointment should we really need one either at Sternhall Lane or at Tessa Jowell and any necessary referalls have been swift.
    • @Alice if left might have been stolen/taken by someone (peed on by a dog or fox), also there are some little things attached of - I assume - sentimental value. I hope the owner can claim them. Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
