mum1901
Hi We are planning to move shortly to our new house and need to buy a few white goods such as a refrigerator, washing machine dryer and a dishwasher . Ideally want to buy all three from the same brand to have a coordinated look and feel. Any suggestions of a good reasonable brand and also outlets, websites where I could get good deals for home delivery. MAny thanks !! ratty
Appliances Online is superb. After sales is a bit of a pain in the bum however, but these were best price for me when I was doing the same. aquarius moon
My personal fave brand is LG.I've found them to be both reasonable & reliable. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54983-white-goods-suggestions-needed/#findComment-827678 Share on other sites
DaveR
For retailers, appliances online, as above, and also co-op electrical. For brands, Miele are bombproof but very expensive, Bosch/Siemens (who are the same company for white goods) are good, and I recently bought a Samsung fridge-freezer which is great so far. Loz
Search around and then get John Lewis to price match. Their after-sales service is even worth a couple of extra quid. red devil
Bosch & John Lewis... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54983-white-goods-suggestions-needed/#findComment-827789 Share on other sites
Azalea
John Lewis does or did 2 year automatic guarantees on washing machines but think their own brands are 5 years. Haven't bought one for a while. Their tellies are 5 years. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54983-white-goods-suggestions-needed/#findComment-828044 Share on other sites
Pickle
I also recommend Bosch and John Lewis. Have had Bosch washing machines for the last 12 years, they are bullet proof. Sue
To the best of my knowledge, John Lewis won't match online prices. If you are concerned about matching, I assume you are going to have the appliances on show rather than hidden, so you will want to consider aesthetics as well as as efficiency and reliability. Why not google Which Best Buys in your price range for each appliance (or at least which are their Worst Buys, so you can avoid them), make a shortlist for each appliance, then choose one brand which comes near the top for each appliance? Then you can google the cheapest price for each appliance (you don't need to get them all from the same place necessarily). Though look at online reviews for the places you are thinking of getting them from, as customer service is important too, not just price. If you want to see them in the flesh, Curries in the Old Kent Road seem to have a much bigger selection than John Lewis.Having said all that, John Lewis's own brand appliances are often quite plain and nice looking, whereas some of the others are in my opinion hideous, unless you like things like bright red logos jumping out at you all the time :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54983-white-goods-suggestions-needed/#findComment-828067 Share on other sites
Loz
Sue Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> To the best of my knowledge, John Lewis won't> match online prices. They do, provided the business has a physical shop somewhere in the UK. I got a online price match from PRC Direct, on the basis they have a small shop in Ilford. numbers
Another recommendation for Bosch. I think the more basic the model, the longer they last (in my experience). My dishwasher and w/m lasted forever with no problems, sadly I had to give them away when I moved house.Have heard good things about Miele too, if your budget allows. Loz
So, basically, buy German. From John Lewis. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54983-white-goods-suggestions-needed/#findComment-828211 Share on other sites
goosey-goosey
Well put, Loz. And, if you're still interested in John Lewis own-brand white goods, note these are (or at least used to be) rebadged AEGs. Jeremy
We got a Bosch dishwasher and I hate it... can't fit in tall glasses at all. But maybe other models are better... red devil
Tilt the glasses, stops water 'pooling' on the bottom of the glass too... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54983-white-goods-suggestions-needed/#findComment-828319 Share on other sites
