Mick Mac
Ok this is an original thread isn't it .... ? Hope so. It's for people to recommend wine that can be bought locally. You can recommend a wine either as 1) Decent drinkable good value wine and where to find it, or 2) Great wine for a special occasion, doesn't have to be a lot of money, just a special occasion wine for you State1) name and region of wine 2) where bought (preferably in ED but not compulsory) 3) price per bottleI'll start: Best value wine in ED for me is (I'm an old world man)1) Piccini Chianti (a bright orange label)2) Sainsbury Dulwich 3) About ?7You can add some description of the wine and what it goes with if you want but I'm not very good at describing my tastes so I'll pass. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54861-the-wine-lust/ Share on other sites
Horsebox
Good thread, Mick. We've been using Majestic of late and I can recommend the following, all around ?6-7 a bottle.Ondine Shiraz - Very light easy everyday drinking that also goes well with most foods.Beefsteak Club Malbec - great with steak as the name would suggest but drank this with a chicken and coconut curry and it worked well, so what do I know?Corolla, Nero D'avola - if you like your Chianti then you should like this. Improved after being open for 48hrs and had a lot of cherry on the finish (that's about all the tasting notes you'll get from me).I don't drink a lot of white but can wholeheartedly recommend Sainsburys TDF Gruner Veltliner at ?7.50 a bottle. If you want to splash out then pretty much anything from Californian winemakers Ridge will be delicious but they start at ?30+ so perhaps special occasions only (it is for me). Seabag
Les Debonnaires Chinon2011Cave Du Bruno?15Once a week-ish Tastes bright and soft like Chinon, specially with a nice dry aged rib-eye of beef very nice Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54861-the-wine-lust/#findComment-826510 Share on other sites
Mick Mac
Although I started with my favourite cheap bottle recommendation - I recently had a special occasion wine: Chorley les Beaune Cave de Bruno?25 Beaune is my new favourite region. I was all Bordeaux for a few years especially with read meat, but I'm moving towards burgundy now in my old age. And on Christmas day I had a bottle of Morey St Denis - Vielles Vignes Cave be Bruno ( I think although cant really recall where I bought it) about ?30Not perfect for turkey perhaps but I don't often drink white wine Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54861-the-wine-lust/#findComment-826567 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
Talking Burgundy- pretty much any bottle of Meursault will do me for a special occasion. Loz
It's strange - I love wine, but burgundy has never really rocked my boat. Most Pinot Noir's, for that matter. Give me a good Bordeaux-style blend, preferably from Oz, any day. Earl Aelfheah
On the subject of bubbly, I recommend Ridgeview (based just outside Brighton): http://www.ridgeview.co.uk/ They do a blanc de blancs (Grosvenor?) which is good value. Siduhe
This one - Sainsbury used to stock and we loved it as a "nice" bottle of weekend wine at around a tenner.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/foodanddrink/foodanddrinkpicturegalleries/9089444/Wine-of-the-week.html?image=1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/54861-the-wine-lust/#findComment-826649 Share on other sites

Sparkling for me with ice and slice.Remember folks drink responsibly. Cheers!
