The Bigger Picture film club will be showing ? ?Ida? (2013) at 8pm on Thursday, 12 March 2015, Upstairs at East Dulwich Tavern.

This film is a moving and intimate drama about a young novice nun in 1960s Poland who, on the verge of taking her vows, discovers a dark family secret which she explores.

18-year old Anna (stunning newcomer Agata Trzebuchowska), a sheltered orphan raised in a convent, is told by the Mother Superior to visit her Aunt Wanda (Agata Kulesza), a worldly and cynical Communist Party insider. Her aunt shocks her with the declaration that her real name is Ida and that her Jewish parents were murdered during the Nazi occupation, and Ida then traces her family story. The intersection of the personal story and momentous historic events makes this a powerful and affecting film.
