My Bulgarian housekeeper makes perfect pancakes. I had her make an enormous mountain of them this morning and coat them in Nutella spread. I then insisted that the au pair ate the lot of them as it is the tradition of this country (my poppets had organic porridge - clearly). That girl is far too skinny if you ask me. She shall have pancakes again for supper, and this time she will have them swimming in maple syrup.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

To cover all bases topping wise you will have to buy some cinamon, sugar, lemon juice, golden syrup, maple syrup, nutella, peanut butter, blueberries, strawberries, clotted cream, honey, ice cream, cr?me fra?che, chives, salmon, cheese, and whatever other toppings people can think up.

Check out the packet to make sure you don't need additional ingredients, just checked out Tesco's and you need to add eggs to the mix...happy tossing

Batter (for a lot of pancakes) = 8oz flour, 2 eggs, 1 pint milk, salt. Put it all in a big bowl, mix it up with a whisk until it's smooth. Put it aside for 1 hour or so.

Cooking - heat a non-stick frying pan until really quite hot - like if you touch it with your finger even for a moment you say "ouch, that's hot". Put in a piece of butter about the size of an almond - it will melt and sizzle - and then enough batter to cover the base of the pan. Tilt the pan around so it covers the base. Then leave it until the edges start to come completely away from the pan. Turn/toss it, give it another minute or so, and it's ready.

Put a little bit of butter in before each pancake. After the first one or two it gets easier because the pan is nice and hot and you learn how much batter you need just to cover the base of the pan, so nice thin pancakes.

Brendan, you know I'm too half hearted with forum posting to read the whole thread, sorry I have no real doubt you can make pancakes.

I wonder if we could tell the difference between bottled and made from scratch?

I can - I eat very little processed food (ready meals...) and as a result it feels like a rush after I eat mass produced products (I am not sure if it is the Sugar or Salt that makes it feel like my heart is pumping 10 times harder - same effect after eating MSG)

Very strange, but am sticking to traditional home made ones myself

    • I’ve noticed a lot more of that green grass that looks a bit like corn or barley. Is it naturally-occurring or should I suspect the hand of a “guerrilla gardener”?

    • I think there's the usual number this year -15-20 - screeching around high & low, zooming between the houses and generally being awesome. The back gardens between Colyton, Dovedale, Mundania & Shelbury always seem to have a colony in the summer - no idea where their nests are though. There's also what appears to be a solitary bat that zooms back & forth along the front gardens of Colyton, unless it is several but you never see two at once!
    • Thanksxsll ive decided to return to original clinic with my questions.
