KalamityKel
Fine... I found your "Conversation should be a dialogue with people prepared to listen and adapt an argument accordingly." comment quite contradictory in itself and surprised you came out with such rubbish. Happy now? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5420-older-posters-drifting-away/page/2/#findComment-175434 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
With your comments on this thread? Not really noHow is it contradictory? And why is it rubbish? Are you saying that conversation is when 2 people with no desire to listen to the other viewpoint is a better definition? KalamityKel
how would you get that from what I said?Put simply no body "should" do anything. The freedom to choose to listen or nor is that of the individual and not for someone else to say what "should" or "should" not say... Am I making myself clear yet? SeanMacGabhann
Quote But this is a nonsense surely? Every single one of us has responsibilities - which by definition means we should and should not do certain things?Even to be aware of Administrators terms of use of the forum means we are aware we should do certain things?as for Quote Is there another meaning I am overlooking? KalamityKel
I think my point is being missed entirely and I no longer wish to explain it.No it's not excepting that anyone is in the right over someone else just the moment has past and by pulling something apart as much as this has lost it's original, if slightly confusing (to some), meaning. Jamma
Why should a conversation consist of one another being prepared to listen and adapt? OK you have to listen. But if the other person is spouting guff then there is certainly no need to adapt. But of course one person's guff is another person's bible. Who decides which is which? karter
Maybe KK is saying that people shouldn't have to 'listen and adapt' to people such as the moderators on here? It's all very confusing. KalamityKel
no not saying that at all karter. Please don't be trying to stir things up ta.people in general shouldnt have to do anything.Theres a difference between following rules and respecting the flavour of a place than anyone should have to do anything because others say so - when it comes down to opinion listening and respecting someone elses thoughts is a better approach than being made to do anything unless of course it is against the ethos and code of conduct of somewhere. Keef
There are some who have gone, but these were not people that posted loads. I only bother reading very few threads now, unless very bored, but still find myself logging in daily. mockney piers
There seems to be a nice sort of equilibrium. For every lost Quaywe we might get a new Quids. If marmots man pipes down santerme pipes up. If there isn't enough Huguenot pedantry I can fill the breach. Not much snorky? Presto blah/whatever coincidentally embittered surly Hibernian misanthrope may appear next. cate
Who are the administrators and moderators on this forum? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5420-older-posters-drifting-away/page/2/#findComment-217524 Share on other sites
Administrator Administrator Posted June 25, 2009 Administrator Share Posted June 25, 2009 I am the Administrator. There are three or four moderators, they have all been on here (almost) since the beginning and fortunately they have not drifted away as their help keeps the forum running like the well oiled machine that it is. Most of the time. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5420-older-posters-drifting-away/page/2/#findComment-217608 Share on other sites

Administrator Administrator Posted June 25, 2009 Administrator Share Posted June 25, 2009 I am both one person and many and then some. The moderators names are not important, they do a good job as they are. And yes, they are all Lizards, they are legion. Huguenot
I guess that moderation, like the law, should be applied without a view to the identity or status of the subjects.Keeping moderation separate from personal issues means that the moderators can act in the best interests of the site without bringing personal baggage with them.It also protects them from the few loonies out there who may take moderation issues out of proportion and seek retribution. The fact that there are a few of them provides balancing views and does a good job of keeping tyranny at bay, although in principle Admin isn't really under an obligation to do that. It's privately run as an act of charity ;-)Why are you so keen to know cate? If you felt you had a particular personal gripe, you should appeal through private messaging perhaps?Re. Sean, beware smoke and mirrors... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5420-older-posters-drifting-away/page/2/#findComment-218130 Share on other sites
