Hear, hear!

Thanks Krosfyah and Felictynormal - I am fully expecting to be flamed out of all existence by 'the man' (joke).

We are scared of violent crime - we want to be safe and not caught up in gang warfare - we want Jacqui Smith do actually live in her main residence in Nunhead and pull her finger out. And we are sorry that a man was murdered. And we don't want anymore.

Glad to hear it's only a handful - if that really is the case. Their collective voice does come over quite strongly on the Forum sadly.

Bullshit bullshit bullshit bullshit bullshit.

I?ve stayed mostly out of this because it is just that. But to suddenly start discharging ideas about the general contributors to this forum being somehow exclusively white or perceiving themselves to be somehow separate to some unrepresented black community is just bollocks.

For christ sake a lot of you sound like a bunch of petulant teenagers having a rant when what you should be is a concerned community.

Do you ED's have any idea of how the general tone of this thread comes across? I know that the media read it. Do you really want to be known as sneery racist, aspiring, East Dulwichites? Cos (despite many attempts from decent types to keep things in perspective) that's how it is coming across. Loud and clear.

And not for the first time, which is why I very rarely post on here.

Oh, and yes I am black. As black as your blackest nightmare. You are making this excellent Forum come across as really mean spirited and racist, which is deeply sad - but is just a fact of life. Like this awful shooting.

Yeah, its that kind mean spirited, sneering from the aspiring classes that forces young black men to shoot each other at an alarming frequency.

Actually, I do but lets have it your way instead and for the sake of political correctness lets pretend that this was a random, motiveless murder perpetrated by a racist serial killer (he probably sneers as well). There now, does everone feel better?
More of the same. So sad.

Actually CoD, the reason I may sound flippant isn't because I'm racist (I'm not), isn't because I sneer at Peckham (I like it FYI) but is because I really don't care. Its just another pointless killing to me, like the ones last week, and the week before, and they no longer make me sad, or frightened, or (least of all) angry.

Maybe when you or one of your family are shot in the head, it might mean something then? Until that time there is a little trait called empathy you might want to take a large pinch and sniff of.

Oh wait. I forgot, because you and your family aren't black, or gang members, it wouldn't happen to you right?? :-S

That response is just risible.

I think that makes you a no-longer-human-being.:-S

You don't care about the community you live in, and the people who are your neighbours?

Excellent post, CoD - thanks for expressing the situation succinctly and calmly but without denying the emotion that this situation does engender.

The EDF is a light-hearted place but this is the death of one of our neighbours and it's terribly sad.

For those of you trying to make political capital out of it - please stop.

I was asking my mum about this the other day + she couldn't remember it. I'm sure I went to primary school with his daughter.

What I vaguely recall is that it happened outside of Kings on the Rye and was a black cab driver killed.

Hi

Well i passed area on bus this morning knew something looking very very bad way it all closed off with police signs having just moved out of Peckham 1 year ago.

spoken with family tonight and they seen it in there local paper for cambridge news travels hey.

awful prayers and thought with family on man who died.

I was shocked and still am bit it hindsight reminded me these things can happen anywhere no one is immune we go about daily lives ignoring this until its brought close to home.

so sad.

I

Kros + FN +CoD don't sweat Dulwich Fairy's dimwit outburst. His regurgitation of half digested Daily Mail headlines is a matter of small consequence. Marmora's senatorial discourse, on the other hand, is a sobering and healthy corrective much more in keeping with the ED vibe and the zeitgeist. Respeck.

Arghh... trying to stay out of it, but couldn't let that one drop. What a load of old horse shit.

"Detectives from the Met's Operation Trident are investigating. They are appealing for anyone in the area around that time who may have seen anything suspicious, in particular a black man seen leaving the scene; he was about 5'10" tall and wore a black hooded top."

"For christ sake a lot of you sound like a bunch of petulant teenagers having a rant when what you should be is a concerned community." thats fucking rich.....

I know i am taking this out of context and the spirit in which it was meant, but the fucking point has always been about the fact that the community stretches further than the borders of ED. The amount of money and projects that have appeared in ED due to a liberal quango of an executive, which the majority of you have cheered at is a fucking liberty and a piss take and frankly the reason why democracy is fucked. No wonder these amoral politicians know how to play you fuckers when 16+ thousand hit the thread about a murder. It can only always be about the headlines, then tomorrow it's fish and chip paper and you will all get back to getting more of the goose green play area rebuilt in organic and eco friendly wood. How many of the 16+ thousand went and laid any flowers at the scene. Anyone say a prayer, anyone going to stop a teenager on a train and ask what he wants to do with his life, what he aspires to, conversation communication and a little bit of self sacrifice, who knows. Meanwhile the bombs still fall on Iraq and god knows where else yet nobody is around to see them or blog about them. Maybe we should start a foreign affairs thread or something.

I started this thread and think that it's time it was put to bed. We're going round in circles, talking rubbish about UFOs. It happened, we all have to deal with it in our own way, no way is right or wrong. It's all very sad and slightly distressing but it's two days ago now and life goes on. Barry Road was back to normal yesterday and hopefully will remain that way for years to come. There are issues about violent crime in London and particularly around East Dulwich's environs and they're not going to go away. If one deals with Sunday's murder with bravado, all well and good and if someone deals with it by being a little bit scared, that's all well and good too. There's just no need to doubt one's motives and mock people within East Dulwich or criminalise anyone who happens to come from outside the neighbourhood.

I think administrator that you close off this thread. Don't think it's doing anyone any good anymore!
