Seabag
Scooters are great, BUT it's other drivers that aren'tTake a road awareness course (there's a place at Bell Green that runs them)I loved mine, but after being taken out twice by careless drivers, I quit Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53706-scooter-help/#findComment-817096 Share on other sites
sillywoman
Just re-insured mine: it's a 50cc Vespa, Im ummm, 'not young' shall we say? it was about ?130 fully comp. I do 3000 miles p.a - just around town & commuting and spend around ?5-8 per week on petrol. Because I got my driving licence a million years ago (in the 1980's) I didn't need to take a test, but my understanding is that under 125cc you can drive on a provisional indefinitely (could be wrong though?)I love, L.O.V.E, love my scooter. It's the best thing ever. I say go for it - you won't regret it :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53706-scooter-help/#findComment-817305 Share on other sites
sillywoman
But get a leg cover and handlebar mitts - otherwise it's hell in the winter. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53706-scooter-help/#findComment-817306 Share on other sites
ruffers
I commute by motorbike not scooter but no matter. Do it but get training regardless of needing a test or not, and get good gear so you're not being distracted by cold or wet - there's no bad weather just the wrong outfit ;-)And heated bar grips are amongst the world's best inventions. uncleglen
You have to pass CBT and renew it every 2 years I think and keep L plates on. You are not allowed on motorways but you can do the full test and get a full licence Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53706-scooter-help/#findComment-817325 Share on other sites
womanofdulwich
TRy and get one with slightly bigger wheels - I think they brake/handle better. Also if you are a car driver, you will feel safer with a slightly bigger engine.
