We use Ruskin House School on Herne Hill Road. We like the size and especially the outdoor space they have plus longer hours than most (7-7) which is a blessing when you get stuck on the commute home!

The baby class has 3 rooms - one for sleeping, one for eating and messy play and the one for general play. They also have lots of cots unlike others I have seen that only have a couple. The final class (age 3+) have spanish lessons once a week which is great on top of the regular curriculum. All food is made in house and they are happy to consider input to the menu. They provide everything you need (except formula) and they will also (with your permission) give your child a dose of calpol if needed. This can be very useful to save you from being pulled out of work which I saw other mums having to do.

I couldn't recommend the Half Moon Montessori Nursery, where our daughter goes, highly enough - but that would be for a little further down the line, as they need to be two to start there. Keep it in mind though - we're thrilled with the care she receives there.

    • Niko hardly needs another recommendation but we use him regularly. He's good value, he turns up when he says - or tells you if he can't - and definitely knows what he is doing.
    • Ian the guy who used to own the garage left last year. The place is run by someone else now. Ian was our reliable mechanic for many years, a sad loss. We now use Turners on Barry Road.
    • Agreed that Niko is really good: he was helpful and explained everything in detail, and did a good job fixing the problem I had. He was also honest rather than trying to drum up a bigger (more expensive) job for himself by telling me everything needed replacing etc. He charged a very reasonable rate. Will definitely call him when I need a plumber again and would recommend!
    • Sue, Sue, Sue Yes the bus stop at what was The Kings Arms I believe remains closed,  However the stops at the Heaton Arms (no youngster here) is open. Easiest way is a 63 or 363 to Peckham Hill street and change for the 78 which takes you directly to the front door or as good as.
