Jeremy
Huguenot, the "spirit of the law" means nothing when we have traffic wardens on a commission. Huguenot
I'm not sure what either of you guys are referring to? I was observing that the best strategy for avoiding payment was Chick's rather than Huntaaar. I was also criticising the warden's behaviour.Quids, I agree that the LA want your money (although I disagree with your attributed motivation) and for that reason Chick's approach is going to be more effective.Jeremy I agree with you, and for that reason Chick's approach is going to be more effective.(As it happens Quids I can't agree with you that parking management is about revenue generation, as according to Southwark's figures the 8.9m cost of maintaining and running traffic & parking management schemes far outstrips the 1.1m in revenue they generate. QED they ain't about money, but about punishing selfish drivers who abuse both their neighbours and their environment). PeckhamRose
So you'll be going to the Community Council tonight then to discuss this with the relevant people, yes? Sounds highly dubious that the cost of issuing and processing a ticket would be that much (8 x ?60 = ?480). It certainly shouldn't be the case... Huguenot
Line 3, last few columns...I imagine you have all sorts of costs, not just ticket processing: salaries, signposts, maintenance etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5361-over-zealous-parking-ticket-man/page/2/#findComment-174419 Share on other sites
Jeremy
The 8.9m is for "traffic transport and parking" which surely covers much more than just traffic and parking enforcement! This doesn't really give us an indication as to the costs of traffic and parking management alone. I don't really have the time to search for evidence, but I am far from convinced.I'm not amongst those who believe that parking tickets are a "cash cow", but I do believe that the commission-based systems in use results in unfair or unjustified tickets. And even if the council don't profit from it, others clearly do. Huguenot
Agreed with all points Jeremy. With attendants I can't think of a better payment system that would also ensure they did their job though. After all, it's recipe for 40 cups of tea a day...
