To avoid spelling nazis, you can either ignore them as they are in all honesty, scum and nobody cares about them anyway, or you can add a dictionary to Firefox where it highlights mistakes, it is highlighting Firefox now as it is not in the dictionary, I haven't seen a grammar or thesaurus add on, but they probably exist as well.

I think spelling does matter - not necessarily to a huge degree on here - but I think the English language is a rich and glorious and wonderful thing, and it pains me to see it abused.

The odd typo here or there on a forum never hurt anyone and doesn't deserve to be picked on (although it is funny sometimes if pomposity can be pricked by a spelling mistake) but it really bothers me if the kids don't think spelling's important. Then again, I did once buy that travesty "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" as a "treat" for myself, so clearly I'm the pendant here.

Make a grammatical mistake and pay the price seems to be the message here..Boom head-shot anyone?

Now Quids has something, my spelling has never embarrassed me on here, but sometimes those oh so 'funny' or 'pointed' or 'serious' posts merrily thrown down in the small hours when drink has been taken, have caused a blush to mantle my cheek when I've reread them (or sometimes 'read' them for the first time) the next day.

Mind I've never changed one.

Edited not once but twice, because I had a few on the way home.

"The prose, grammar and punctuation were a dead giveaway, TLS, because the article in question that you plagiarised (and made no attempt to acknowledge the fact you did so - saying nothing implies it's yours) possessed all three of those characteristics of the English language.

Your posts, for the most part, merely contain prose...."

The above was addressed to me by david_carnell recently on another thread..

Now some may say david should get a life, if he has the time and inclination to write such a post.

Others may think he is a pedant, snob, displays a sneering superciliousness and superior air by writing this.

It could be to some that attempting to embarass and belittle someone in this way is the hallmark of rather an unpleasant

character and speaks volumes about the person and what they are probably like in everyday life.

However, I do NOT subsribe to any of the above viewpoints, and, indeed, thank him profusely for publicising my shortcomings.

I have since tried, vainfully, to follow his excellent example so "Bravo! david!" I say.....

Some may say that you really haven't a clue Tony.London Suburbs.

Others may say that David was simply pointing out that you were passing off others' writings as your own.

And some might say that you are a bit embarrassed that he had shown you up.

Not I though, I understand it is your attempt at humour.

Failed attempt Mikecg? tell me irony hasn't also gone the way of spelling

Just in case I wasn't making myself clear, I was deliberately misspelling pedant in an attempt at bathos

winky winky winky (6);-) (ugh)

edited many times because I'm boozy and don't want to come across as arsey

I thought of this yesterday when I saw a massive facebook petition called

"STOP our Government from killing of ST Georges Day because it may offend!"

As you can imagine it is full of shrieking bile, stupidity and most of all just being plain wrong, as most of these things are, but you have to love anyone that proclaims how great being English is and is unable to use "off" instead of "of", nor to use apostrophes. Typos are one thing but with nearly 200000 people joining the petition one would have thought they had time to correct it

    • The events section on here isn't that big! There are presently only 20 events on there for the whole of February! It's just taken me about ten seconds to scroll through to see what's on! Also, where did you sign up for this summary email? Is it definitely coming from this forum, as I can't see it mentioned anywhere?
    • I'm a bit confused. You posted less than half an hour ago (as I type) but at the bottom of your post on what seems to be a screenshot dated yesterday evening  it says you found it? If you haven't, can you not contact the charity shop directly in case they still have it?
    • Can anyone help? When moving home I accidentally sent a framed print to a charity shop on Lordship Lane.  It’s not worth money just of sentimental value to me. 🥲 Has anyone seen this or purchased it? please get in touch with me 07583160009 many thanks
