JulieP
My 8 year old has been going to South London Dance Studios since the age of 3 and has done ballet, modern and tap. However, she has now been banned from ever participating in another show (because we had to pull out as she wants to miss one practice session to attend a friend?s party). She loves dancing and has enjoyed doing shows / exams so she cannot stay there. I have looked at some of the schools locally and many seem to cater for younger children or only do ballet. Does anybody have any recommendations for schools where she will be able to continue with what she was doing - but perhaps with a bit less pressure? Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53559-dance-school-for-8-year-old/ Share on other sites
sanity girl
Dulwich ballet school - we moved to them from SLDS (due to their unbearable arrogant attitude) when my daughter was 6 and they've been great. Much more relaxed but still a high standard ad the teachers are lovely. They offer ballet, tap and modern Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53559-dance-school-for-8-year-old/#findComment-815849 Share on other sites

lotita
are you happy with dulwich ballet school? Do you think they have space for new 6/7 year olds. I too am feeling disenchanted with South London's attitude and am considering a move.... sanity girl
I am very happy with Dulwich Ballet School - the teachers are lovely and my daughter enjoys both ballet and modern lessons with them. If you get in touch with them they will let you know if they have spaces and they are usually happy to offer a trial class Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/53559-dance-school-for-8-year-old/#findComment-831860 Share on other sites
polkadots
To be fair to SLDS parents are informed that practice lessons for shows cannot be missed before they sign up their child for the shows. SLDS shows are of amazing standard and no child whatever size, shape or experience is ever excluded if they agree to commit to the practice schedule. Several hundred children take part in these shows and I can understand that attendance is crucial not only to keep up standards but to make it fair to everyone. My eldest has taken part in three shows and my little one in one show. They are just buzzing for days and weeks after the show. The skills they learn - team work, discipline, dance techniques, friendships they make and experiences they have are second to none. My little one was always so shy and the show has given her such a boost in confidence it is amazing to see. Signing up to SLDS shows is a commitment, but it is worth it and my girls can't wait for the next one!
