I would really LOVE to know your thoughts on present establishments on the Lane and suitability of newcomers to the area... no really I WOULD. You quite clearly have strong views although perhaps you should try expressing them with a more polite manner and use or language.

Any shop opening up round here has my best wishes. Its a dog eat dog world out there and if they survive then good on them (tat or not people still buy from them)

Richer Sounds is always a good place to waste some time - and the staff are on the whole much, much more knowlegeable compared to ones in Dixons, etc

Not sure if LL is the right place (agree about the footfall comment) - but I'm all for some more variety shop wise

Dulwich Hi-Fi Station is at No 11 Lordship Lane, near the EDT.

It's got loads of hi-fi equipment (naturally), and a helpful knowledgeable owner. We bought a difficult-to-find stylus from him only the other day, and he was happy to let me take it away without paying, to see if it fitted, and said just drop the money in later or the next day.

I've nothing against Richer Sounds at all, but we already have an independent Hi-Fi store that could do with our support.

Why not try popping in there, it's what community is about, no?

Cheers, Elaine.

One of the funniest threads on here (search for it) is where some diligent ED resident decided there was something 'funny' about the hi-fi shop.

Probably run by the same clown who patrols the neighborhood abducting children.

The present hi-fi shop is OK, they're not going to win any awards for range or brands that aren't the usual though. Which is why I shop at Richer Sounds.

Agree, I've had some excellent bargains from Richer Sounds plus extremely good customer service :)

Although there is what's been described as a perfectly good hi-fi shop already on LL the whole banisters and chained-off pavement thing is a complete turn off. It's just not very welcoming looking and if I'm shelling out decent money on hi-fi equipment in a shop (as opposed to online) I want that shop to be set up as if they've got my happiness in mind.

Richer Sounds is a bit like Netto tho.

So, how about a local friendly hi-fi shop without chains and bannisters?

Next up: AnotherPaul's insightful explanation of how bikes are a lot like cars, in that they both have wheels.

Having spent some time in both in Netto and in Richer Sounds, I feel qualified to take this on.

Netto sells brands you've never heard, usually of questionable quality. As opposed to, say, Lidl, where you get brands you've never heard but some of which may be of decent quality.

In Addition, Netto 'sells 'em cheap' but 'piling them high' isn't of paramount importance. It's just cheap.

Richer Sounds rent small shops and fill them floor to ceiling with brands you have heard of. They can sell their stock cheaper because of lower overheads and by utilising their buying power to snap-up the massive surplus of unsold hi-fi gear floating around out there. That said, I don't know how they fare these days since the boom in online shopping.

Just don't buy their own-brand stuff. It's shit.

I'll say this for Richer Sounds: they've got a great extended warranty policy. Buy your cover, and if you haven't used it in three years, they give you the money back. Just got ?30 back on a dvd policy ? I was amazed. Thought there was bound to be a catch. So, yes to Richer Sounds; nothing sets off a living room like big black boxes of hi-fi. I don't reckon it will happen though; doesn't seem like their area, and it's only 10 minutes on the train from the London Bridge branch.
