That's good to know - contrary to what my naive opinion on ?20 socks might suggest, I find myself in rather straitened circumstances currently - cheap gifts for the hordes of nieces most welcome.

And you're right about the sign, it's a spectacularly fugly thing, which made me assume that the shop would be selling nothing but tat (and not the chichi Northcross Road variety, which I actually rather enjoy).

I like that Sue - no prices in the window usually means avoid - thats my policy too. I guess i may be able to afford whats inside but I tend to feel I should have an idea of a shop's price range before going in, just to "ready" myself.

It seems therefore only expensive shops have no prices in the window - I wonder are they missing out on some potential customers who could possibly afford the prices but dare not enter....

OK, I had a look through the window on my way home tonight.

Really disappointing.

There seems to be hardly any variety of shoes in the whole shop (forgive my grammar, I'm well into a bottle of Green and Blue wine after a 4am start this morning, AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH).

I had high expectations that this would be my shoe nirvana. But, er, not.

Well, there was one pair in the window I liked the colour of (grammar), otherwise, zilch.

Another day trip to Brighton then to stock up on shoes :-S

Hey Sue, or anyone else who's been in, happen to know whether this new ethical footwear concept includes converse-style trainers?

There are some nice Ethletic ones that I've seen that if I can buy locally rather than send off for I will, but not sure if I'll get there before the weekend and there's an added sense of urgency now my last pair of non-ethical plimsolls have completely worn through.

Pretty sure not, as I could do with some as well :))

Sadly there wasn't a single pair of shoes in there I even wanted to try on :-S

Really disappointing. Maybe they will get some new stock in. You could always ask if they could order the trainers for you?

I bought a lovely pair of converse type trainers for my niece for Christmas from Biff in the village - they were lovely. Also, Stella B on North Cross Road had some last year that were either Orla Kiely or Merimekko print. It is good to support the local shops if we can (sigh). Too bad no-one locally sells Monolo's...

Thanks, only trouble with buying shoes online is getting the size right as I have strange feet :))

Though, er, my present pair were a fiver from a stall at Bridport Market and have lasted me a couple of years :))

Sue, that's very good and if I knew where it was, I'd hie me hence to Bridport (is it in Wales?) - mine were stupidly expensive so the drop in price to Ethletic (or indeed Converse) prices is welcome. Let me know if you find them cheaper elsewhere locally. I did read on another website that the Ethletic ones tend to come up large so to order a size below your normal size, but if your feet are really freaky, that might not help.

DM - the only ones I've seen in Stella B are weird Emma Hope ones in velvet with a squared off toe - this cannot be what you mean for it is ugly and you will accept only the finest things in life..? And on the Manolo front, the only way I'd look acceptable in them would be to have my little toe removed - so sticking with my Vivienne Westwoods for now.

Hmm, my excellent geography at work again.

Well I've ordered the internet ones, so will let you know when they arrive whether they look normal (and you'd be very welcome to have a look at them if you wanted to - that might be weird, come and look at my feet, but you know what I mean).

Back on topic, I will recommend that new Davina stock this kind of stuff - surely that's what the good people of ED are looking for.

Yes, that's what I was hoping for, but it seems not.

It's not clear to me quite who they are aiming at, though they do seem to have a wide selection of kids' shoes .....

Hi, I bought a pair of Ethletic trainers from the indoor market last summer. Haven't been in there for a while but worth checking out...
