Vet recommendation (and one to avoid)

I have recently heard of this forum following a bad experience with a new vets. One of our cats suddenly became very ill and we took her to Brockwell Vets, opposite Herne Hill station. We haven't used a vets before, both our cats being rescues who had check ups before we adopted them, so I just searched for the nearest vets, assuming all were the same. Had a really bad experience with this one, including them starving her over the weekend - when she had already lost almost a quarter of her body weight and thus resulting in her being diagnosed as annorexic - and prescribing her with an antibiotic that we have since been told not to use at all. The vets did nothing to improve her condition and ended up sending her back home with me when she was extremely ill.

Taking more time to find a second vets, we chose the Neighbourhood Vets. After just a couple of days with them her blood tests showed lots of improvement and, although things still did not look hopefuly, over the last couple of weeks she has improved dramatically and seems to be through the danger zone. The Neighbourhood Vets have been fantastic and I couldn't recommend them enough. We did not have insurance, however they are flexible with the payment plan and have been making a conscious effort to keep costs down - without impacting the care they provide. The facilities are also so much better than at Brockwell and the nursing care is fantastic. I would thoroughly recommend them if you are looking for a vets, and suggest you avoid Brockwell Vets!

Can't recommend The Neighbourhood Vets enough. We've recently taken on 2 kittens, and as new pet owners they couldn't be more helpful. Wayne on reception was so knowledgable and helpful when we first popped in, and the vet we met (the owner) was so assuring and the kittens were totally relaxed as she gave them their first injections too. Plus point is you can have a cup of tea whilst waiting too!
Having lost our amazing dog suddenly last year due to an absolutely horrendous vet error, I had become very sceptical of all vets and their practice. We have recently introduced a new puppy into our lives and I really did my 'shopping around' to find a vet I could trust. I cannot recommend the Neighbourhood Vet more highly. Knowledgeable, caring and utterly professional - yet friendly and a proper permanent vet team (v locums that seemed to plague our last vet practice). Very glad they're in our neighbourhood!

So sorry to hear about your bad experience with Brockwell Vets. I posted last year about a terrible experience I had with them when they put on file that they thought my cat had cancer but did not have the courtesy to tell me herself. It was only when I took her to Mayow Vets in Sydenham six months later, and they told me that she was close to death, that I realised they had kept this information from me.

Thanks for your recommendation, too.

    • I can't recommend Aria enough! He helped me out very last minute on a Friday night when my kitchen sink was blocked. Super friendly and left me with some bits in case anything went wrong in the future and I could hopefully fix myself. Any plumbing issues, he's your guy!
    • Many people like letting their dogs take a crap in the street as well... It's not mass transport. It's transport for those too lazy to actually cycle rather than sitting on a powered vehicle. Oh and those green credentials? Discuss those with the kids digging up the critical minerals powering the bikes. These vehicles should be docked as they are in other cities. That way twats wouldn't be able to leave them in the way of those who can't see well or get around easily. They like their mobility too.
    • Yes, thanks, evidently I have had both! Yes, thank goodness (though I have been feeling a bit sick, but I suspect that may be due to oat milk past its use by date which I stupidly used to make  hot chocolate last night). Sorry to hear you are ill too. Sounds different to mine, I haven't been feverish, and my throat wasn't scratchy, just very sore on the first day. Though I did sound a bit hoarse when I spoke on the phone this morning. Definitely feeling sorry for myself though, got a lot to do and not up to doing it, just lying around in bed. Commiserations to everyone else in the same boat!
