Bring your own at Jaflong

Oh for fuck's sake 'breaks' what planet are you on?!

Regardless of your very poor sense of humour I am not suggesting anything other than IF I wanted to drink then I should probably do it somewhere where the owner has not expressed his anti-booze feelings for religious or whatever other reason any more than I would scoff a big mac staring in the window of the blue cafe or juggle pork pies outside a synagogue.

It's already been pointed out that one can have a perfectly good curry experience without alcohol and I would rather do that now that he has these feelings - stop trying to imply some anti-religious angle.

General question: when I was in my twenties I'd gladly neck any and all complimentary shots offered at curry bill time to make me feel special. Is it a sign of age when you start turning the bad brandy, generic brand cointreau down?

Second question: has anyone ever had the weird frozen coloured dessert at a curry house?

Gordon Bennett - Yes I read all your post! I said "a few bottles"!!!

If someone wants a small glass of wine, they can either take a screw top bottle and take out of it what they want, or take one of those tiny bottles of wine.

If someone wants a brandy or a liqueur, they can either take some in a small bottle or take the whole bottle and take the rest home.

Those options would be included in "a few bottles"!!

My reference to Cobra was a separate issue relating to the change to BYO and the difference it will make to the bill!!

Do you mean the ubiquitous ice-cream stuffed orange/lemon/coconut? I honestly don't know why they sell that crap, surely nobody buys it. Especially when proper Indian desserts can be so tasty.

Regarding the BYO argument... it's beyond me why anyone would actually want Cobra/Kingfisher, it's just generic bog standard lager. And if you want wine... buy a ?5 bottle and take the rest home. Liqueur coffee is a tougher one, but I can't imagine many people missing it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Was at Jaflong last night.. Was very busy....

I had 2 Poppodams .. Mushroom Rice .. Chicken Madras with added Green Chillies.. Peshwari Naan.

All of which were cooked to perfection.

Have been a couple of times since Jaflong stopped selling alcohol and the food has been very good on each occasion.

There was a few problems before Christmas but all is fine at the moment.

Well worth a return visit if you have stayed away.

I choose not to take my own alcohol and drink water. I often just drink water anyway with my Indian meal.

Of course you can still take your own alcoholic drinks if you so wish.

Give them a go.. You will be pleasantly surprised ..

Be aware, the trade value on your car is really low as no one wants to do the work & it's often only when it reaches near scrap value that someone (else) is willing to invest (their money) to try and fix. So if you're willing to front the money and fix your car that (you know) then that is most likely your best option (also understanding that it is outrageous that you should have to replace a CVT gearbox after 50K). If that isn't appealing consider a new Skoda Fabia 1.0 (Auto) on finance if you can't afford cash, it will last 20yrs.... (and avoid cars from the Stellantis group)
    • If you are referring to me, I was using my mobile. Just quoting the post I was replying to would have made no sense without showing my original post as well. I wouldn't have been able to do that on a "real PC" either, assuming I carried one around with me everywhere. It's nothing to do with what I'm using, it's the way the forum is set up to quote posts. I did insert a screenshot showing the keyboard by mistake.
    • You have to book for the Sunday roasts in advance. I have bad memories of once going for a circular  walk around Downe and then trying to eat. The Queens Head staff (and customers)  looked at us as if we were mad for attempting to get a meal without booking. The other pub in the village  reeked of bleach.  We had to  drive around in search of a meal, and ended up at some large pub whose name and location  I have thankfully forgotten. All I remember is the food, which was truly awful.
