Jeremy
You can walk to most of central London in 2hrs... if you're banking on a 2hr journey anyway then that could be an option! Bic Basher
I've walked from Peckham to the Elephant in less than an hour. Oval station is also worth trying to walk to. At a brisk pace, 45mins to an hour to ED. MarkE
40 is definitely running more or less a regular service, but it is busy. Probably worth heading to the library first and joining it empty Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52926-train-journey-times-from-ed-to-lb/page/4/#findComment-813151 Share on other sites
James Barber
The previous Dulwich Society magazine had an article about Mr.Kleinwort (of Kleinwort Benson). Apparently he walked every day to work in the City of London and then back again - whatever the weather. He insisted his children also did this when they joined the firm. I've just cycle to Holborn. One bus in the 30minute journey - 139 from Waterloo. Jeremy
I believe they lived in the huge mansion on Champion Hill, which is now Kings halls of residence. Camberwell was a highly affluent semi-rural area on the fringes of London. StraferJack
I used to walk from Dulwich Library to Blackfriars - took about 70 mins which isn't badMost journeys I managed in a week was 5 there and 4 back - the legs really feel it after a bit but it's perfectly doable when th eneed arises on days like today Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52926-train-journey-times-from-ed-to-lb/page/4/#findComment-813164 Share on other sites
Earl Aelfheah
It's about 4 miles from ED Station to Bank. At a brisk pace it should take about an hour. That makes it comparable to the bus in rush hour and not that much longer than the train at the moment. Cycling is hands down the quickest way to do it. Both methods of getting there under your own power, also much cheaper. Doesn't say much for our public transport options really, but there you go. StraferJack
What I used to like about it was reliability - you know to the minute when you will be somewherePlus, you can't knock the excerciseDid I negate that excercise by "earning" a pint in the Bishop on the way home? Jeremy
I wonder if our councillors would be able to push Southern/Network Rail for a written promise that once the works are complete, our London Bridge service will revert to every 10 minutes during the morning and evening commutes?
