Jeremy
There is a loose group of long term posters who know (or have met) each other in real life, or have common acquaintances, etc. I'd put myself on the fringe of that group, and people like Otta/SJ/EP closer to the core of it. But it's not as if these people always have the same views, or never get into "forum arguments". Jeremy
I think there are some valid reasons for name changing, particularly if you previously used your real name (or part of it). I regret registering with my real name for a number of reasons, but can't be arsed to re-register. It's just a plain daft user name.I'd be really disappointed if *Bob*'s real name was something like "Darren" or "Alan". I'm not sure why. Otta
Ideactivated my original account with the intention of disappearing. But I couldn't stay away. The intention was never to pretend I was someone different. And Although don't like everything in ED I am from there and my parents and sibling still live there so I reserve the right to be interested.Plus Facebook doesn't lend itself very well to discussions with multiple people. Otta
And whilst I am aware thatmany would put me in a clique with the likes of EP and SJ, with some justification, I would also point out that there are few people who I've disagreed with on Here more than SJ (as well as agreeing with him a lot too).We javanese intentionally ganged up on any poor new user, and we have NEVER taken each other's side if we don't genuinely agree on er something just for the sake of solidarity. Blah Blah
I haven't been around long enough to know all the characters but I tend to associate the idea of a clique with recurring themes, behaviour. In my own case it the accusation of being a troll or another poster after a handful of first posts. That is a recurring theme of a small group of people, who never apologise when shown to be wrong it seems. I stood up for Blah Blah at the time but thought Davis was too obviously provocative to be genuine. I could be wrong in either case, as I said at the time, but please let's not reopen that one here. Louisa
RPC with the greatest deal of respect, I think it would be healthy for that topic to be re-opened, whilst we are finally all being honest on this thread about the unspoken truth surrounding cliques on this forum. Many of us have known it/felt it for years and it's only now we feel we can talk about it. I remember Sue being cornered last year in a thread by some of the clique and although I chose not to join in I was quite shocked with the extent to which the EDF in crowd will push someone, often unknowingly (I'd hope) until they back down.Louisa. StraferJack
With slightly LESS respectLouisa just now: ?Many of us have known it/felt it for years and it's only now we feel we can talk about it.?Just for the purposes of clarification, here is Louisa talking about cliques in 2009http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,252481,252788#msg-252788Again in 2009 on another thread (called CLIQUE)http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,252930,252999#msg-252999post above this one is her doing much same in 2010http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,519482,519797#msg-519797And here in 2013http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1112323,1113373#msg-1113373I would also like to see the evidence of the bullying of Sue by this clique ? rather than going on Louisa?s memoryEdited to add that I've largely stopped posting and I know I'll regret engaging with Louisa and co on this but it ticks me off that one of the main reasons this forum took off was those early posters - and those early posters looked after people who later joined (I was later to the party) Louisa has been invited personally by me on many occassions and ocassionaly she says she might - but she never does.Much easier to spit bile and accusations when you are anonymous eh? Robert Poste's Child
How is this 'clique bashing' so far? The post was started by Otta who's apparently in the clique. So far it just seems to be a discussion around whether there actually is one or it's just a perception and, if there is, who's in it.
