Ted Max
Did Boris tweet these bits? Probably not, eh?:"The Government stepped in while the Mayor dithered and, by covering 80% of the costs, made sure that this hugely important project for south Londoners will now go ahead.'The Mayor has already cancelled lots of projects that would have benefitted my constituents. I am delighted that the government was able to force him into a position which meant that even he couldn't scrap this one.'I wonder what this means for the value of my house? Michael Palaeologus
I have been loud in my criticism of Transport strategy in this area of London; but this is good news and well done to all concerned. Now, about that Tram ... I am delighted that the government was able to force him into a position which meant that even he couldn't scrap this one.' That's a load of cr*p - if the Government has forced Boris into this why didn't they "force" Ken to do it?*Bob* - It will open in May 2012. All we need is the 63 or 363 to be extended by a few hundred metres.HH and TJ - maybe you can force Boris into this one too? MitchK
I only hope there is an anti-mugging unit on the train as judging by the places it goes to, they'll need it. ????
So an aon with Ken in charge nothing......less than a year with Boris and it happens and yet Tessa seems to be acting like they've finally got round his obstruction.......another example of why normal people detest politicians, playing their twatty games with an assumption we're all idiots Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5282-east-london-line-extension/#findComment-169104 Share on other sites

Burbage
I wouldn't mind being "forced into a position" with ?60m of government funds. I'd be tempted to do a lot of dithering for that. But, as long as it doesn't go all Metronet, I suppose it's good news. Though I'm not entirely sure what the point is. Doesn't this merely replace existing services that they've broken or are planning to break? And isn't the most pressing demand for transport to the City and Westminster and Camden? What demand is a line from Clapham to Dalston supposed to serve? PeckhamRose
Anyone here work in Dalston?Anyone here want to?Anyone here looking forward to looking for work in Dalston when the train takes you there?Nahhh, me neither. I did not even know there was a "round-London" train line. Isn't that the Circle Line? So we have an overground Circle Line as well now? Is that it? Siduhe
Feel free to give me a great big 'whoosh' if I'm missing the sarcasm, but isn't the point to let people who live at both ends of the line to get into other parts of London easily (rather than being about travelling from one end to the other)? Personally I'm quite looking forward to a faster way to get to Canary Wharf (via Canada Water), Shoreditch and Highbury and Islington. Michael Palaeologus
Surely the train runs FROM Clapham Juntion to us?I imagine when the first train runs we should all turn up to Denmark Hill or Peckham rye stations and fall to our knees in blessing. *Bob*
But when New Road comes, it will bring outsiders with their strange ways. This is a local town, with local shops for local people - we don't want any trouble here. LuvPeckham
TessaMany thanks for the update, on behalf of the trading community of Peckham, we believe that this is a positive step in the right direction towards the regeneration of Peckham town centre. We look forward to the first East London Line train arriving at Peckham Rye and to the increased links to other parts of London when it does.
