Anyone been to Hisar recently?

Was a regular in the past. I think the food at Hisar is better than Koz.

Some neighbours of mine went to Hisar recently and were disappointed.

They were also regulars and reported that Hisar had changed hands.

I also noticed looking at their menu that prices had all but doubled over the last couple of years.

I have had 2 meals at Koz. Both were very disappointing if not poor.

Shame as along with Asian food, Turkish food is my favourite cuisine .

I would still opt for Hisar.

Ha ha that's the one

Who cares about busy, care about quality

Hisar, nice as it is, lacks any Tarma/Humo quality control. It's basically all the lowest/cheap end stuff

Sadly I agree. Looks and tastes like it comes out of huge cheap catering packs.

It's a shame because I'd rather pay a bit more for better quality.

I've only ever had good meat there, though.

Being a Turkophile and having studied the Turkish Language, Culture and Cuisine

FM Mangal has long been on my list of places to visit.

I definitely be giving it a go in the New Year.

One of my favourite Turkish Restaurants was Gem in Upper Street Islington.

Have not been there for some time and it looks like it has had major make over

and the colourful painted walls have now gone.

Hisar is good but not very authentic... ..but probably better suited to Western tastes.

K?z food is different and possibly more authentic in it's accompaniments.

For Take-Away Kebab and Wine are superb. Been going there for many many years.

I remember when the upstairs was an actual sit down with oil-skin table clothes and candles. 20+ years ago.

I know the staff there very well but do not use the 'Back Room' Facilities. :)

Adana with Halep sauce is a favourite of mine.

I prefer Hisar because the meat is charcoal grilled - they don't do that at K&W.

I was never able to point out ED on a map - even when I lived in Peckham in the late 80s ED was referred to (if it was mentioned at all) as somewhere you might pass through en route to somewhere interesting.

Only lived here 8 years though (I'm a classic blow in) and will probably move on soon, so have no feelings for the place one way or the other - it's only a suburb after all, however quaint/gritty/full of blow-ins/hip/dull/vibrant/blah it is.

Now that's what I appreciate Maxxi. A totally honest, gritty, down to earth response. No pandering, accusing, finger pointing, agreeing to disagree, patronising, nimbying - just what's in your head down on the forum. Probably one of the top 5 responses I've ever received on this forum tbh.

I'm not a fan of the charcoal grilled flavour, hence why K&W is a preference.

?A properly prepared charcoal-fueled fire that has been burned to hot glowing coals and is ready to cook over ? will not impart ?charcoal? flavors to the food.

Rather the flavors many associate with grilling over charcoal is actually derived from fats dripping onto the hot coals, vaporizing to smoke that attaches to the meat.?

The flavour of Kebabs at Kebab & Wine comes from careful meat preparation and Marination with oils, herbs and spices.

However, before that you're happy to post:

"Bring on the hateful snobbery I don't care" & "I've been using since some of you were even able to point ED out on a map"

Ha ha ha, so no double standards there then

And the New Year kicks off, much like before

(and there was a large amount of tongue in cheek in maxxi's post, I reckon)

No double standards on my part whatsoever. Just credit where it's due. Not gonna make an argument out of it, just my observation. Didn't realise you were also an expert on other peoples opinions on here too Seabag wow I doth my hat to you! ;)

I agree with Fox about the prep in K&W.

When you use quotations as often as you do DF it might be useful to know what particular wiki page you are quoting.

For t'record I never claimed "charcoal flavours" but said it was charcoal grilled as it is - and ANY idiot knows the difference in taste when meat is cooked over coals (regardless of whether it's the smoke or a divine intervention that causes the 'taste') and meat cooked over gas/electric oven/cooker/grill (regardless of the careful {whatever the giddy feck that means - is it toxic?} marinade).

Now stop being a dick.

Free range tongue, ethically sourced and braised in a green egg.

Now, anyone know where I can lay my hands on a yuzu zester?

Well Maxxi..

It was not from a Wiki page.. I usually post a Source page when I quote something that most people

might not be aware of or might be copyright..

With something that most people are likely to be aware of I did not feel the need.

..and was mostly my own words..

I have mentioned here before I had a shop in ED in 1993.

I was assembling / hiring and selling Gas Fired Bar-B-Cues back then long before

they were generally available as they are today..

I was a distributor of Thermos Gas Bar-B-Cues.

So once again, I know what I'm talking about...

DF

Nope. None of that has any relevance to my post. Or your original pointless and misleading reponse re charcoal grilling.

If your own words why the ""s? Or is that an extension of the lovable third person trait?

and purlease... this, er, shop you had... you have mentioned it before?????

maxxi - you are one of my favourite posters of all time. If you do decide to move on from ED, I hope you still post on the forum!

absolutely top post on this thread.

oh and I love Hisar and would recommend it to anyone. (I much preferred it to Kos). But what do I know?
