steveo
I went to a Kentish hunt once where the quarry was a couple of humans. Huge horses, hounds, all the clobber, stirrup cups and everything, but no fox. The hounds weren't allowed to tear the humans apart though Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52690-boxing-day-fox-hunts-2014/page/3/#findComment-808948 Share on other sites
Robert Poste's Child
I can't believe this topic has only reached 52 posts. This tired old debate hasn't been rehashed for at least a few months. Is everyone still sleeping off their recent excesses in preparation for next week's excesses? Blah Blah
Hmmm but fox hunting on horses with hounds is not 'natural law' tho is it Robert. It's a man made construct for a thrill and/or sport. It is true that animals are guided by natural instinct, but human beings are not on that level. We do have a moral compass and the ability to be fair and compassionate if we want to be. The hounds are trained to hunt foxes. The horses trained to be ridden. Neither would do that without human intervention. aquarius moon
Are you for real? What do you even know about living in the countryside unless you've lived there. As for foie gras, it is a well known fact that many meat eaters who have eaten meat all their lives and are quite happy to eat roast turkey, chicken curry, beef burgers, lamb shank, pork chops etc. refuse foie gras because of the excessive cruelty inflicted I just can't understand how people that know how it is produced can eat it without feeling sick to the stomach.ETA this reply is to misteaks post, not steveo's although his was bad enough. Eroguronansensu
And to think I used to live in ED, probably before you lot, and I must say I used to think the people were stupid then but now.....well I leave that up to you to decide. The real question you should be asking or answering is what gives anyone the right to kill any animal just for fun/sport? Yes I know that a lot worse things go on in the world, but that would open up a whole new can of worms, which I doubt anyone has the time to discuss on here Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52690-boxing-day-fox-hunts-2014/page/3/#findComment-808984 Share on other sites

Eroguronansensu
And that is the crux of the matter, we dont actually care enough to stand up and be counted, apathy has finally reached the lowest common denominator, as a life form we dont care what happens to the other life forms on their planet, because they have first dibs, unless of course your a born again then of course the planet is only 6000 years old...... Blah Blah
Yes it's something that mystifies me too. That all kinds of excuses are given to justify what is essentially just another blood 'sport'....as though class and tradition make it somehow more civilised than dog or cockeral fighting etc. People don't oppose fox hunting because it's the upper classes wot do it! They oppose it because it's inhumane and pointless. PokerTime
I personally would be outraged if the fox hunting ban was repealed. We have banned lots of things, and often in the face of huge protest, because they are ethically wrong. This really is the bleating of a small number of people, of whatever class, who think they have a divine right to do whatever they like. Chasing a fox and ripping it to pieces is inhumane and cruel, end of. And there is no longer any place for it in a civilised society. DulwichFox
Well said PokerTime... Opposition to Legalising Hunting Remains at All Time High The latest opinion polling from Ipsos MORI released this week shows that 80% of people in Britain think that fox hunting should remain illegal and the numbers are even higher for deer hunting and hare hunting. Those figures have continued to rise since the polling began in 2008 and are now at an all-time high.Hunting has only ever been practised by a small proportion of the population. Nothing could be described as a tradition if the vast majority of people never engaged in that activity, have shown little interest in it as a pastime and expressed little support for its continuation as a legal activity.Above and beyond that, whatever the pro-hunt lobby say, there is a much more genuine, compelling, enduring and strongly supported tradition that runs through the fibre of the people of this country and that is that we are a nation of animal lovers. We detest the idea of inflicting pain and death on an innocent creature if the purpose of that cruelty is simply for pleasure.http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/michael-stephenson/fox-hunting-ban_b_6373052.html?utm_hp_ref=tw Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52690-boxing-day-fox-hunts-2014/page/3/#findComment-809043 Share on other sites

missteak
This has nothing to do with to foxes - when you focus on the act, you miss the point. Start a thread on fois gras or whaling of whatever crap you need to get you through the day, but filling a foxhunt topic with emotional minutae and wiki sourced filler ensures that we never get to the meat of things. We Ned more a academics on the forum..oh hang on a minute...
