as9
Hi I understand Sainsburys are responsible for this space, i've found it so frustrating it's often shut Sunday mornings (11am), I don't have a garden and need somewhere to let my toddler loose. Who can I raise this with? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52622-st-francis-park-often-closed-sunday-mornings/ Share on other sites

James Barber
Hi as9,I will raise the matter. Hopefully it won't take long to fix as it is a legal agreement between saiansbrys and Southwark Council. Dun
Hi James, wondered if you had an update as I hadn't realised that Sainsburys were responsible for locking/unlocking St Francis park. It is still locked around 10-11am Sunday mornings which is really frustrating as I can't walk thru there on a regular basis. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52622-st-francis-park-often-closed-sunday-mornings/#findComment-812915 Share on other sites
Bluerevolution
St Francis Park has nothing to do with Southwark Council, Sainsburys own the land, they don't open until 11 on a Sunday hence why it's not open Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52622-st-francis-park-often-closed-sunday-mornings/#findComment-812921 Share on other sites
James Barber
Wrong Bluerevolution.Southwark Council are accountable for ensuring Sainsbury's stick to the letter of the S106 under which Sainsbury's deliver the park and runs it.I will seek officers to enforce the Section 106 legal agreedment with Sainsbury's. Bluerevolution
Fair enough James. Southwark Council can only, realistically, lodge formal reports for breach unless a council employee goes and checks every day. I'm sure Council tax payers will find that outrageous Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/52622-st-francis-park-often-closed-sunday-mornings/#findComment-813025 Share on other sites
milk76
Sainsburys signed up to an S106 contract requiring them to maintain, secure and run the park in a set manner in return for permission to build their supermarket. It is the same contract that ensured they building of champion hill stadium as an asset that can only be used for community sports, leisure and educational purposes. These contracts are very common to preserve community facilities from overdevelopment. The council can and does enforce these legally binding contracts.
