kistanbul
I was dumped before Christmas and am trying to get together a play list to get over the end of a five year relationship. I emphasise that this is a "getting over it list" not a "wallowing in it list". My current favourite is The Gambler -- "you gotta know when to hold 'um, know when to fold 'um"Help me people. SeanMacGabhann
Don't underestimate a good wallow - it's how I get over these things! But if people are going for "getting over it", can I suggest that the first person to sugggest I will survive gets a huuuge QI alarm bell?Oh and sorry to hear about your breakup as well - it's never good at the time. Applespider
Nothing that you actually like listening to normally. Otherwise, it becomes intrinsically linked to being bloody miserable and you'll never enjoy it quite as much again for years. Keef
Oh Bla di og bla da (life goes on) - BeatlesAvoid "Dry your eyes" by The Streets, not only because it's rather depressing, but because The Streets should generally be avoided at all costs! Strawbs
"One Way Ticket (Because I Can)"Standing on the borderLooking out into the great unknownI can feel my heart beating faster as I step out on my ownThere's a new horizon and the promise of favorable windI'm heading out tonight, traveling lightI'm gonna start all over againAnd buy a one-way ticket on a west bound trainSee how far I can goI'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rainAnd talk to someone I don't knowI will face the world around meKnowing that I'm strong enough to let you goAnd I will fall in love againBecause I canGonna climb the mountainAnd look the eagle in the eyeI won't let fear clip my wings and tell me how high I can flyHow could I have ever believedThat love had to be so blindWhen freedom was waiting, down at the stationAll I had to do was make up my mindAnd buy a one-way ticket on a west bound trainSee how far I can goI'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rainAnd talk to someone I don't knowI will face the world around meKnowing that I'm strong enough to let you goAnd I will fall in love againBecause I canWell, I have walked through the fireAnd crawled on my knees through the valley of the shadow of doubtThen the truth came shining like a light on me and now I can see my way outI'm gonna buy a one-way ticket on a west bound trainSee how far I can goI'm gonna go out dancing in the pouring rainAnd talk to someone I don't knowI'm gonna buy a one-way ticket on a west bound trainGonna have my breakfast with some pink champagneI'm gonna sail the ocean, I'm gonna spread my wingsI'm gonna climb that mountain, gonna do everything. Strawbs
Personal favourite of mine.."Special Ones" by GeorgeIsn't it funny how you never really screamed at my face, but your anger so unspoken and unchannelled permeates my essence to the point where I,Don't want to see you hear you, be anywhere near you,you probably think I'm threatened by youbut your illusionary power doesn't threaten me,Actually I think it's kind of funny that you create an illusion that is a mirror,I don't appreciate you and I know that that surprises youI suppose you see that those who follow their heart always win, those with integrity have won the match before it's begunSo rather than being kicked around, I'm going to kick you to the curbSo rather than being pushed around, I'm going to push you away firstSo rather than trying to protect you, I'm going to cover my bases firstSo rather than trying to open my heart, I'm going to lock it with a keySo that only the special ones, so that only the special ones, can ever get through to meSome can see beyond the barrier of threshold whereas others can't see beyond their sculptured mould, you could offer me nothing, you could offer me nothing that I needDo you think I'm asking too much?A kind of respect and trust that shouldn't even be questioned, how can I open my heart with dishonesty sitting next to me?I've honoured your honour to the point of embarrassment, but innocence in the hands of the guilt-free is kicked to, is kicked to the curbI was ashamed of my innocence,I was ashamed of my innocence but now with clarity I see that your bullshit is just not worthy of meSo rather than being kicked around, I'm going to kick you to the curbSo rather than being pushed around, I'm going to push you away firstSo rather than trying to protect you, I'm going to cover my bases firstSo rather than trying to open my heart, I'm going to lock it with a keySo that only the special ones, so that only the special ones, can ever get through to meI don't want to be angry.I don't want to be angry.I don't want to be angry.I don't want to be angry. This is not worthy of meand now with clarity I seethat I can walk away, I can walk away Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/5238-songs-to-get-over-being-dumped/#findComment-167107 Share on other sites

buggie
Yes by Mac-something and Butler is v good.... me and my friend use to have a whole track list in our heads of songs for the single/dumped, but never got as far a writing it down, and haven't needed to refer back to those sorts of songs in a while. "In Demand" by Texas is good - prob more so if you've found someone else and bump into your ex seeming to want you back (possibly bit early on at the mo for Kistanbul but sure it'll happen!).Am sure an anti-valentine/love/getting over being dumped compilation CD would prob be quite a big seller this time of year!!
