As it seems we will be based in London for Christmas, just us, I thought it might be a good idea to book somewhere to eat Christmas lunch - as we do a big meal (Danish style) on Christmas eve.

Has anyone got any recommendations of where they might have gone - anywhere in the East Dulwich area .... would like to stay local ....

Would like something fairly relaxed and family friendly. (It is Christmas after all!)

We spent a fabulous Christmas day lunch at Rocca in Dulwich Village followed by a cocktail in Bel air House, both with our 6 month old daughter in tow. Was really worried about the meal as thought it might be a bit miserable not to be at home but it was so much fun because the staff in Rocca were so fabulous and the meal was great. Lovely atmosphere and very reasonable. Would definitely do it again but off to the in laws this year!

I would suggest, to change a bit if ED/village

- Dulwich wood house (SE26) very nice and warm atmosphere gastropub

From there you can have a pre-lunch walk in the Dulwich/Sydenham wood (you have a gate in the same street, further down )

- The Crooked well in Camberwell?

Or perhaps if weather is good, a trip to Surrey or Kent?

Amazing pub in term of decor and quality of food , nearby Godstone farm (Surrey) (nice treat for the kids) calle " the Bell"

    • I've found quite a few independent shops in the wider area selling quite a few of my usual grocery items much more cheaply - the international supermarkets on Catford Broadway in particular are great. Branded things like Lavazza Rosso coffee, Oatly oat milk, Lurpak butter, Heinz tinned goods - all up to 20% cheaper than Sainsbury's. Plus the bonus while you're there of a huge range of good value dried spices, decent quality fruit and vegetables, meze dishes etc. I acknowledge it doesn't have the convenience of just doing The Big Shop at Sains once a week if you're time poor - though I really enjoy getting on my bicycle or going out for a wander of an early morning, seeing the sights of places I don't go often, and doing my errands at the same time.
