SuzieK
I am looking purchasing an XC60 and it has an electronic handbreak.I don't have an issue with this but am wondering how any XC60 drivers find it? I am particularly interested in the fact that it automatically turns off when you push the accelerater is applied, how does this work on a steep hill?Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51775-xc60-advise/ Share on other sites
jacks09
I had it in a q3. You get used to it very quickly. Steep hills are no problem at all.... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51775-xc60-advise/#findComment-801187 Share on other sites
kford
Lots of cars have them now. It holds you steady on a hill until you drive off and then automatically disengages. Hard to do handbrake turns with them though. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51775-xc60-advise/#findComment-801190 Share on other sites
evildrwallace
I haven't driven an XC60 but I often use a Golf which has a similar automatic handbrake and I have to say it works brilliantly, including on steep hills - you just have to learn to trust it. I am not a fan of a lot of new gadgetry in modern cars but I would have to say that this is something that I would be pleased to have in any car I owned. Mick Mac
Automatics done drift back, they only go backwards if placed in reverse or neutral. If you are in "drive", as you will be, you only go forwards and don't need a handbrake on hills. The handbrake is for when you are stopped. El Pibe
it is kind of moot on an automatic. I had this on a previous non automatic and its marvellous. Only problem is remebering to disengage normal ones in hire cars and the like!! El Pibe
it may well be, it is on my wife's automatic, and it's still useful when actually leaving the car, but as you say, when driving automatics don't actually roll backwards so kind of pointless.I was just agreeing with you really.
