Peckhamgatecrasher
My one beef with F&Herd is that they don't do unsmoked streaky bacon. I don't like back either. maxxi
I like collar bacon when i can get it, grilled slowly so the fat renders off (great for fried bread or the start of a leek and potato soup), otherwise I'm in the streaky camp too. Bought a bacon iron a while back for when I want the whole flat-crispy-bacon thing Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51675-bacon-a-love-story/page/2/#findComment-800511 Share on other sites

Robert Poste's Child
Like all food* to come out of the New World, turkey is wrong and has no place in a right-thinking person's festive menu, but I can see the deep fryer would add the fat that it lacks if you cook it normally.*except potatoes. Robert Poste's Child
OK, and chocolate, though if they'd left that well alone I'd be a size smaller. To return to the topic, does gammon count? I suppose it straddles the porky border between bacon and ham. maxxi
I think Gammon counts as long as it's not too thick and salty - and that benefits from a good bacon iron too - no need to snip the edges. Now a bacon chop - that's a horse of a different kidney. numbers
I'm going to go against the grain here and say I am thoroughly sick of bacon. It doesn't cure (ha) everything. I don't like it in: a bloody mary, a burger, macaroni cheese, cheese on toast, anything with kale.Much as I enjoy reading fabulous food blogger, Niamh Shields of Eat Like a Girl fame, I switched off during Project Bacon. Bacon jam was the buzzword on twitter a few years ago, drove me nuts. Cup of Assam or strong builders and a good bacon sandwich has its place though. I miss Homemade on Barry Road for that.PS: Don't start me on bastard "candied bacon" either. *grumps off* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51675-bacon-a-love-story/page/2/#findComment-800571 Share on other sites

Otta
Numbers, I'm with you on bacon in burgers. And bacon in Bloody Marys? What sort of total cunt has bacon in a bloody Mary?Personally a bloody mary would make me hurl anyway, but if I saw someone having one with bacon I really would want to go all Goodfallas on them and start bashing their head against the bar.
