Clarks shoe sizes conversion

Are Clarks shoes generally a half size bigger than other standard brands? I.e. if my daughter takes a Clarkes 10, what size will she be in other bog standard shoes?

A relative wants to buy her a pair of M&S shoes as a present and asked her size - but don't want them to be too big and I know there's always a conversion issue with Clarks.

Clarks come up about a half size smaller - so if your daughter is 10 in Clarks, she'll need 9.5 in a standard sized make e.g. Start Rite.
