Reg Smeeton
The original plan was for the Picturehouse to open in December. But given that there's no roof on the northern portion at the moment, surely we're looking at January or beyond. What's the latest on the opening schedule? (And please let this be a thread about the cinema, not about employment policy.) Louisa
If it's open by Christmas I'll personally make and distribute homemade mince pies to every forumite and distribute them dressed as a yummy mummy with matching bugaboo accessory from the corner of North cross and Lordship. In other words, January. Louisa. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51149-ed-picturehouse-when-will-it-open/#findComment-796380 Share on other sites
EDmummy
I'd pay staff to work 24/7 to get it ready before Christmas to see that Louisa 😉Louisa Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> If it's open by Christmas I'll personally make and> distribute homemade mince pies to every forumite> and distribute them dressed as a yummy mummy with> matching bugaboo accessory from the corner of> North cross and Lordship. > > In other words, January. > > Louisa. red devil
Louisa might have to MrB. I've first hand experience of working with Picturehouse and the 2 weeks over Chrimbo and New Year is one of, if not, the biggest income generating periods in their financial year. They will be pulling out all the stops to get it open to the paying public, even if it's not 100% finished. Gird your loins Louisa... QueenMab
They might want a living wage to do so, mind. Which might explain the apparent delay.EDmummy Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I'd pay staff to work 24/7 to get it ready before> Christmas to see that Louisa 😉 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51149-ed-picturehouse-when-will-it-open/#findComment-796775 Share on other sites
StraferJack
Christ. StraferJack
Well the living wage thing has largely been resolved hasn't itSo back with picture house on the lane, it's just a question of "when"Interesting post from red devil. Were those dealings pre or post cine world takeover? Jeremy
I walked past over the weekend, and as Reg says, it doesn't appear to have a roof. Surely they can't get this turned round in little over a month? red devil
Did you never watch Changing Rooms Jeremy? James Barber
The granted planning permission 14/AP/1101 included a number of conditions. None are recorded yet as being consulted upon e.g. Cinema Management Plan as per Southwark Council website and all are required to be completed before any opening. In fact some are required before building work completes. So a December opening does look under threat unless we see a sudden flurry of work. bemusED
A quick glance from Blackwater Street confirms its not going to open any time soon. The gaping hole in the side of the building hasn't progressed in weeks. My guess...end of Feb at the earliest. judith.arkwright@hot
I don't think the living wage thing is resolved. Workers at the Brixton picturehouse have got it but does anyone know if the workers at east Dulwich will? Other picturehouse workers haven't been awarded the same settlement.J Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/51149-ed-picturehouse-when-will-it-open/#findComment-799155 Share on other sites

Front doors were open and inside it's a derelict shell, steel beams on the floor, so they are still doing the basics. Also had a look at the gaping hole around the side, this is where the two main screens are going, even once the main building works are done it takes many weeks to fit out a screen. I reckon Easter at the earliest if things go smoothly... James Barber
I spoke to the people working on the site earlier today. They aid mid to late January is the new date they are working towardsThey added that more problems than were expected.I could see a lot of very large steel girders on the ground waiting to be raised and placed. so even mid/late January seems optimistic to me. red devil
James, maybe the contractors were talking about the main building/enabling works they're responsible for, as Picturehouse have their own in-house team for fitting-out the screens, and the cafe would probably be done by a specialist outsourced shop-fitter. Even so, having seen the building site myself earlier this week, I agree that mid-Jan is highly optimistic for their works, especially when you consider there will be close to a 2-week shutdown over the Festive period. I think it will be well worth the wait though...
