There's a problem with our emails getting through to Hotmail accounts (may be fixed!)

It seems like East Dulwich Forum emails (e.g. you have a PM, registration, lost password, there's a reply to your post) are being blocked by Hotmail and users with hotmail.co.uk or hotmail.com email addresses aren't receiving them.

Unfortunately Microsoft's email Sender ID verification system http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safety/content/technologies/senderid/wizard/ has been down for maintenance for a while so I can't investigate.

In the meantime can you try adding @eastdulwichforum.co.uk to your safe senders list in Hotmail, that might work. If anyone has any other suggestions that may help please let me know.

I do not use Hotmail, but I assume that they divert dubious e-mails to a personal SPAM folder which can be accessed by individual e-mail accounts. If e-mails are being sent to personal SPAM by Hotmail then putting the address in a safe senders list will work, but if they are being blocked entirely (not getting through the system at all, even if marked up as SPAM) then individually 'allowing' them will probably not work. As the numbers of e-mails sent out from the forum are relatively low (I would guess) these are not being blocked on the basis of excess - so possibly a Hotmail algorithm has found something to annoy it in eastdulwichforum.co.uk or possibly the IP address you use has been blacklisted for some reason (possibly a keying error). If you have a tame Hotmail account for testing you could try sending from a different IP address (log in from somewhere else) to see if it's that. (Or log in to another account from the forum IP address and see if you can send mail to a hotmail account).

Thanks Penguin68

IP's not blacklisted outside of Hotmail, I cannot investigate it inside Hotmail.

Adding the eastdulwichforum.co.uk to the safe senders list may work, so it's worth getting people to add it. Out of interest there's 14,812 active users with hotmail accounts.

The forum sends out about 4,000+ emails per day but excess is not a reason to block emails.

Azalea, that maybe unconnected to this but thank you for letting me know.

Can anyone with a Hotmail account confirm if they have access to a SPAM folder, and if so whether e-mails from the forum are in there? Or can anyone with a Hotmail account do what admin suggests (...can you try adding @eastdulwichforum.co.uk to your safe senders list in Hotmail,...) and see whether anything then gets through?

I received a PM on here yesterday but didn't get any notification email in either my Junk Box or my Inbox.

I've never had this problem before.

Just trying to work out how to add EDF to my email safe list. It's already added to my contacts though, so I would've thought that should be enough.

Edited to say, I have just created a "Rule" for EDF emails so that they are automatically Flagged when they come in. Maybe that will work...

Not that I think it will help, but to add to safe senders list...

1) Click on the little cog icon in the top right hand side of Outlook and select 'Options' from the dropdown menu.

2) Click on "Safe and blocked senders" under "Preventing junk emails"

3) Click on "Safe senders"

4) In the left hand box type "@eastdulwichforum.co.uk" (no quotes) and click "Add to list>>"

If you use an e-mail client (like Outlook) you will need to adjust the filters both in the client and in your e-mail service - two separate programmes will be filtering junk/ spam for you (actually, SPAM is unwanted by anyone, whereas junk is in the eye of the beholder).

I've made a change to the SPF record to see if that helps, please let me know if they start coming through after 14:00 today (Thursday 6th Nov).

I'm also removing a few posts from this thread to keep it succinct, I am grateful but I want to focus on getting this issue fixed. I know people are not receiving emails to their hotmail accounts but would now like to know if that has changed in the last day.

I would always advise having accounts with at least 2 e-mail providers (g-mail is a good second account, where it's not your first) - if your account is compromised (stolen) you do at least have another to fall back-on, and a second account allows you to mitigate the sort of problem being discussed here. Anyone with an Android phone will have (as a default) an e-mail account with google in order to use the playstore for apps.

Hotmail does have a junk folder on each account but not every email filtered goes to that folder - Hotmail blocks a huge number of emails, the ones that generally make it through to the Junk folder tend to be ones that have got through their inital filter or are a query.

    • Over a 1,000 affordable homes, a new park, jobs and businesses where there is currently a huge car park? I’ll take the former, yeh.
    • I just wanted to recommend Andy (again :))  He has some some work for me in the past and I just had him remove a huge bush at the fro t of my drive and he did such a proffesional job. communicating very well, and kept the place tidy at all times . No complaints and already looking to book him in for more work. thanks Andy !
    • Exactly....perhaps some of those commenting on here never went to either the cinema or the bowling alley but they were always very busy whenever I went - so they were both very well used resources. I am sorry to see them go but you know, good that they have been shut down because it gets rid of the car park.....#rollseyes No it's not but do we take it then that your vision of London then is huge swathes of over-priced loft-style apartments or luxury apartment blocks sold to the most wealthy, that come with a coffee shop, a 24-hour over-priced supermarket, an expensive gym and pool and a separate (discreet) entrance for those living in the (few) affordable houses that were built (for sale or often rent) to satiate planning requirements (that often start with a bold commitment but then gets significantly diluted throughout the process)? I refer you to the Elephant and Castle Masterplan.......funny how the architects seemingly always refer to them as masterplans.... https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/sep/24/developers-ruining-cities-elephant-and-castle-london
    • The rail connection is quite quick BUT Surrey Quays is not mobility accessible. It's an old station with a steep flight of stairs IIRC. I've always gone one stop further to the redeveloped (or as some would have it "socially cleansed and gentrified") Canada Water station which has a lift, and then come back. The last time I went to the Surrey Quays shops half of the units looked empty and two scrotes with an angle grinder were stealing a bike from the bike rack.
