All domestic lager is shite. I am not sure why the stuff made in its country of origin tastes better, in particular when you are in the country of origin. Is that just a change of perception?

Visited a warehouse today in Southampton where they keep all the stuff for the cruise liners. They told us that they do not take on anything local - everything is sourced nationally or intenationally. Imagagine my excitement when I saw pallets of Carlsberg. So I spend ?10 grand on a world cruise and what do they give me? Carlsberg? It's in the John Smiths smoothflow territory. I hasten to add this will have been produced in some beer factory in Northampton not bottled on the thighs of Danish maidens.

Anyway, haven't got a clue what this thread is about but the Grove was a lovey pub till its make over ten or more years ago, and I saw the Italy England match there in 97/8 when we qualified for the World Cup.

    • All good to hear. Cheers BNG If I’m honest, those fliers give off very bland corporate energy   also. Shouldn’t it be a relaunch party instead of a launch party?    hopefully I’m wrong and it’s great
    • The good news is that the Blythe's new leaseholder is Austin Whelan, who runs a chain of very decent Irish pubs, mainly in south London. By all accounts, he has no intention of making any major changes. It reopened last week.
    • A builder said that to me once! What I should have said (but thought of it too late) was that given that I was paying him to do a job, I expected that my glass would be full, not half full 🤣 But yes, you are right in this instance!
    • Just had a flyer through the door. Posting here for people who haven't had theirs yet. The 50% off food is for three days only, and advance bookings only. I liked the EDT as it used to be, so I really hope the changes won't be too massive. Last time I looked through the window the bar seemed to be still in the same place, but who knows. Think I'll wait a bit to try the food. When The Lordship launched, we went for a meal there and let's say things didn't go smoothly 😂 Anybody who was there will know what I mean 😂 They have redeemed themselves since, I hasten to add 😂
