I know I'm a pedant, blah blah, but those are present participles...

Sorry.

The way I understand it, in English they look exactly the same but in a sentence the gerund basically functions as a noun.

'I'm loving that' - present participle.

'Correcting another person's grammar doesn't win you any friends' - gerund.

I looked, you're right, on all counts ;)

Learn something new and all that..

Ironically the english gerund isn't formed with el gerundio but with el infinitivo "Corregir gram?tica..."

Anyway, perhaps back to the matter in hand before everyone dies of boredom.

So where were we? Not picking up an accent but a few bad habits.

I had a uni mate swing by the house on Monday. He moved from Co Down (via london) to Farnham about 15 years ago and now sounds like Pam Ayres. Also saw ice bucket challenge of an old friend who'd married a guy from the deep south USA a few years back.

Full on Scarlett O'Hara and talk of god. *shudders*

Any of our illustrious alumni speaking weirdly?

I was very lukcy, I'd long prepared work for the idea that I was emigrating so they could get a replacement.

In the end they asked if i'd like to carry on working for them from home in a contract capacity?

errrmm let me think about that!!!

It has been life saving in terms of making the transition easier.

..back on Topic, I dropped my kids at school this AM (not a chance if I commuted) as I walked towards Lordship Lane the sun was gleaming off the Shard and the Gherkin. I almost bust into 'Maybe it's because I am a Londoner". Can't see us moving out after some bruief flirtations and a year out abroad.

    • Hello All, I will be driving to Devon and was wondering if anyone fancies a lift and to share petrol costs? Thanks
    • Was meeting a friend for lunch today in ED and thought I’d make a quick visit to the Poundland beforehand as my usual store I visited closed down in Camberwell last year. As soon as I entered was confronted by very loud beat music blaring away (couldn’t wait to get out) and no staff around to serve on the till. The 3 self service tills were all closed so had to wait over 5 minutes to pay. Just hope they can up their game as they have a prime position in ED.
    • Oh no! Poor thing I’d contact Celia Hammond if I were you. I’m out all day tomorrow else I would have come to help. Keep us posted if you can. Thank you.
    • Only way to circumnavigate around TW's attempt at isolating those south of Piermont Green, i'd suggest are making use of the P12 or P13.  Unfortunately no indication as too how long the three different "bursts" will take to be repaired and the obvious inconvenience it causes.
