Probably not what you are looking for but Winston Churchill had the chance to create a United Ireland when as Foreign Secretary in 1920 he had the chance to concede Ireland to the Irish, but instead created a separate state of Northern Ireland and the rest is history.

Very Good Declan!

I'm pretty sure The Englishman in question in that 1920 picture is Martin Chivers, who went on to play many games for Tottenham Hotspurs 70 years later, though I may be mistaken...

SteveT, WHO? I've been wracking my brain along with my Irish husband and we can't come up with anyone.... When you say "had he chosen to stand as leader" does that mean he was never in public office? Ie, not de Valera (born in America anyway), Michael Collins... who? Tony Blair is the best answer we can give, but he's been in public office and he's too busy with the ME these days. Lloyd George? Unite how, in politics or football?

Dear DM,

Oliver Cromwell and Ireland shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence, let alone same EDF thread! And he's not in the last 100 years.... He may have been good for England but no where else!

    • But it’s not just neighbourhood vet - medivet are also a chain that have swallowed up local practices and inflated prices…
    • I want to recommend Simon and his team at Smile Moves. They moved us last week and did a fantastic job packing our entire house up, and moving all our belongings without anything breaking. They were on time, polite and went the extra mile at the other end to ensure everything was in the right rooms. A great experience during a stressful period!
    • Happy to collect at anytime that suits you!
    • Yes, presumably, in terms of using some of the space for non Post Office things, as other sub post offices do. But as a sub office I doubt that they will be able to cherry pick what Post Office services they offer. My understanding is that there are only a few things which Crown offices presently do but sub offices don't (like passports).
