adonirum
Having now been back in ED for just over a year and seen the huge changes that have occurred, I was wondering what do East Dulwichites now do to move themselves up into the true classification of middle class?Do people still follow the old tried and tested methods of:Join the PTA and then move up to School GovernorJoin a local Police Consultation Board and then move up to MagistrateJoin the Committee of a Local Community Centre and then move up to local CouncillorJoin the Rotary Club and then move up to the FreemasonsJoin the local Mum's Club and then move up to the W.I.Join the local Pub Darts team and then move up to the local Golf Club or do East Dulwichites not bother these days and just unilaterally declare themselves Middle Class by virtue of their postcode? Mick Mac
Yes, its the class of the postcode that has changed not the people, it all seemed to just pass us by. Who'd have thought, a postcode moving up in class without consulting its inhabitants? Robert Poste's Child
Reminds me of a guy I went out with a few times who kept referring to me as a nice, middle-class girl his mother would approve of. I couldn't find the heart to tell him that he would do better to check whether being middle class was something I also aspired to, so I'm afraid he had to go. Robert Poste's Child
Some ED people do seem to be amusingly conflicted in that way, if this forum's anything to go by. Mind you, solitary might have been preferable looking back over the years......!!!!! Louisa
Or in the case of two posters today, join an online forum and patronise someone using grammar/spelling/punctuation/language to appear obviously far more middle class than the person they are aiming their comments at. Sorted. Louisa. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50062-upward-into-the-middle-classes/#findComment-789796 Share on other sites
El Pibe
'middle class' is kind of a catchall term for 'stuff wot i don't like' for you isn't it Lousisa ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/50062-upward-into-the-middle-classes/#findComment-789798 Share on other sites
Louisa
Yes it is El Pibe, absolutely. It's the equivalent of reality TV, the 'C' word and Carol Vorderman in the way it manages to get my back up so successfully. I can't deny this fact.Louisa. maxxi
I feel their pain but they should wait - such a decision should never be rushed. I have sometimes pushed too hard for a second pony. I mean really pushed. The pain stayed with me. Mustard
Horses don't do well on their own as they are a herd animal. Maybe their search was for a companion for their first pony.
