Now before I start to accuse various Forumites(and some members of the Great British Public) of being pretentious and being poseurs of the highest order, can anyone explain why this has sneaked into everyday usage?

The idea of "Textspeak" was to abbreviate certain words and save time and space, that I understand.

Replacing "the" with "teh" escapes me.

Could you explain as soon as possible while I make a cup of tae...

As a major culprit in this sort of behaviour, I'll pipe up on this..

I have no idea why I do it more often than I used to , and it irritates me as much as it does you, believe me

It's something that a 2 fingered typist like myself does when he is typing faster than ability allows. I try to correct it as often as I can but I still leave too many in

so - mea culpa

I'm a technological imbecile of the highest degree but can't buy this for a second!

Totally illogical that hundreds of times I've seen Guys "accidently" hit the 6th Middle Key instead of the 3rd Key on the left? and never do it for any other word?

Once in a while you might see adn for and or aer for are but that is obviously a typo but to regularly see this and it being a typo is odds of Billionss-to-One.:))

Tony.. If Sean absolutely promises not to type 'teh' instead of 'the' - can we expect a space after on comma on your part?

Surely, that 's not too much teh ask?

Well only if you also promise "Bob" but I'm going to do my best, even if it looks silly to me.::o

What a thousand times by a thousand different people every day on their phones or on the Net?

How come they don't regularly transpose the 2 letters of any other everyday word like and or are ?

No idea but it's one of my biggest bugbears when reading online. Perhaps people have always got them confused but didn't have the opportunity to write them publically until recently? But they're pronounced different so who knows!

I'm guilty of hitting teh instead of the occasionally too and I touch type properly for the most part. I'll usually go back and correct it unless I'm in 'stream of consciousness' mode.

    • @Alice if left might have been stolen/taken by someone (peed on by a dog or fox), also there are some little things attached of - I assume - sentimental value. I hope the owner can claim them. Will leave a note indeed with info how to retrieve them, though not with a private phone number in a public space 😅 Maybe a friend of a friend will come across this post on EDF.  @embob97 They do have a ring, sorry.
    • Agree but not so great for the independently owned cafes shops etc.
    • My husband goes to the newish one near the Watchpolisher on Lordship Lane.(sorry cant remember name-) I can assure you they're not 'fake'  He started going there because his excellent long-term barber had to rent a chair there when the shop he used to work from in Forest Hill closed. I think one needs to be careful when making statements like that above as it can damage reputable buisnesses. Also I should add the Barbers I mention always seems to be busy
    • Hey are these two keys with no keyring? I lost them a while back so not sure if they will be the same!
