Rising rents definitely an issue in terms of new independents. That said we do have a number still on the Lane.

If they bring back the ultimate hangover sandwich, the all day breakfast, then brilliant

Would be great to see a wider variety of eateries like the ones they have in Peckham. Vietnamese or Lebanese for example.

  • 3 weeks later...

I saw that sadly lilas on Lordship lane is closing down. I?ve copied the below from East Dulwich Mums group:

From Lila?s

?Over the last 8 years, Lila's small but passionate team has been a companion for thousands of SE London residents in their jewellery adventures. We started mainly as a vintage and antique jewellery boutique with an award winning shop design and great professionals and we developed our range of products and services constantly since our early days. We brought together incredible pieces from the late 18th century with amazing new designs created in-house with a focus on sustainability. We've repaired thousands of pieces, we re-modeled and re-set incredible stones from family heirloom jewellery, thus becoming a part in your joy of keeping the loved ones close to heart. We issued hundreds of valuation reports to help with your insurance or legal requirements. We were there for so many of you creating pieces for your special moments: engagement, wedding, new babies or losing somebody special.

Thank you to all of you entrusting us with your most precious possessions. It's not easy to say "Good bye!" to all of this, especially when we started reaping the fruits of all the hard work put into it with great growth on all of our services. However, personal events happening lately have shifted my perspective on work and life balance and I decided it's best to move on.

Lila's will close its door on 30th June 2022, so we're giving it a final push for the last couple of months and we hope to see as many of you in the meantime. I want to stress it's not financial hardship, but personal reasons leading to this decision and I wish with all my heart our team members will be able to take over and carry on Lila's legacy. If you have pieces with us already, such as repairs or bespoke projects, don't worry, everything will be completed in time and handed over just as before.?

I for one was very sad to hear this.

Lilas has been our go to for repairs and purchases for anniversary, birthday etc since they first opened.

They will be missed.

Another Megans???

There's one in Dulwich village already-We've been there a couple of times (once when it first opened...and again a couple of weeks ago ).

And to be honest I wouldn't bother going again-both times the menu promised more than it delivered food was average, and expensive for what it was.

And dreadful 80's greatest hits muzak playing both times.

This was for brunch but wouldn't think of going there for an evening meal or cocktail-the muzak alone was enough to turn me off for good.

I pity the young staff that work there having to listen to it-it was rubbish in the 80's and sounds worse now.

If you're a tears for fears fan and like pseudo Mediterranean food served lukewarm it could be your thing.

This is my feeling on it. Megan's wouldn't be my first choice of replacement, but anything's an improvement on William Hill.

Megan's needs to push as anyone who has been to their DV branch probably won't go near the place. Has anyone met anyone who has been to the DV one and has anything good to say about it?

The Megan's in Chelsea is so good yet the DV one just can't get anything right.

Saw the Joe's Juice place all coveted up ready for the refit...not sure at all about that but at least another frontage is being filled I suppose. Bring back the Curry Cabin I say!

I went to Megan's and thought the food was alright (humus and halloumi and bread is what I like, tbf) but JFC it was expensive and not huge portions...

    • I do think that many social housing tenancies have terms written about flooring too.  They are often ignored but if you ask your local housing officer about that it could be worthwhile. I understand that you do not want to cause a fuss but if the noise from upstairs or nextdoor is unreasonable than you do not have to tolerate it.   The tenant next door might be a new tenant and it is worth their while to respect the regulations and be a good neighbour some people have just moved but have a secure tenancy. Others might be on a newer type of tenancy that is reviewed etc. My upstairs neighbours kids jump up and down from furniture onto the floor it is so freaking noisy and it gets on my last nerve but it is in usually done after 7am and before 9pm and some days it is quiet the noise is intermittent.  So at least I get a quiet night's sleep.   Which is a huge blessing.  To be fair we are not the quietest of homes either.  You are entitled to be able to have some peace in your home.  So don't allow others to ruin the enjoyment of having a lovely home.   Read the stuff in the Southwark website around environmental issues which I think explains reasonable noise etc.  If you don't follow it up it will never change.  Good luck 🤞
    • I'll do an order from Lidl in Sydenham if you ask nicely 😁
    • I love Lidl, but that would be a rubbish site for it, and there is one a short bus ride away in Camberwell. Where I will be heading to get my Christmas lebkuchen ❤️
    • I’m due with my second child in January and have been reflecting that it’s a shame you don’t do NCT or Bump & Baby with your second. We have some wonderful friends we met at baby class that my daughter has known since she was born, and I’d love my second daughter to have the same. I can’t see that a winter babies whatsapp group has been started so if anyone would like to join one please drop me a DM and I’ll put one together (or let me know if one exists!) Kate x
