Fun fact: According to this, The Shard, one of Europe's tallest buildings was excavated and fully built in 3 years....that's less time than it has taken to refurbish a pub and sort out a listed wall / skittle alley in Dulwich Village. If this was a government project, heads would roll.

The people building The Shard did not have to negotiate with Dulwich Estates..

I suspect if it were a government project, it would probably still be stuck in cycles of feasibility studies. Perhaps a few junior PwC consultants would be buzzing around, working on a "business transformation and streamlining" project.

    • I notice that Southwark Council is inviting anyone with the odd few quid to "fund local climate work" focusing on such projects as "key nature recovery projects and green upgrades to schools". It's a little vague to me. Does anyone have any knowledge on the specifics? Does anyone here have examples of these projects that are coming down the road?
