Earl Aelfheah
Going out after work tonight for some drinks and thinking of leaving my bike locked up in Waterloo overnight. Is it ridiculously naive / optimistic to think that it won't be gone by the morning. It has two good locks. mikeb
I wouldn't leave a good bike there regardless of locks. Any lock can be chopped with an angle-grinder.Also, lock your seat with a cable - very annoying to have to cycle home standing up the whole way. steveo
I once rode home leggo. Three in the morning up Barry Road was like an out of body experience Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/49523-leaving-a-push-bike-locked-up-overnight/#findComment-784594 Share on other sites
DulwichFox
Assume you are getting Bus home so you must have an Oyster card Leave bike at home and get Bus to work. Problem Solved and no need to worry about bike being nicked. Earl Aelfheah
Problem is Foxy, I'm already at work and have the bike with me. Didn't cross my mind this morning.Just laid my hands on a cable, so will have a chain (HipLok), a D-lock and a cable (which I can use in conjunction with the D, to lock the saddle). I'm thinking I may just risk it....also just realised that I don't have any lights with me! Really haven't didn't think this through. sandyman
I think if you park your bike where there are lots of other bikes you should be OK. Obviously you can take some precautions to tilt the odds in your favour but I think it is pretty random unless you have a flashy bike being stolen to order.I've left my ordinary bike in the street outside Kennington station for a week with a crappy D-lock and it was still there when I returned. On the other hand I left it for one night inside Herne Hill station in front of a CCTV camera and the next day the front wheel was gone. cle
Can't you leave it at work? If everyone's gone, nip back and bring it in.Then come in early next day and remove to usual spot, if an issue... Applespider
Or just have a couple of drinks and then ride home assuming you've got lights with you? Then at least you've got the bike for the morning. If you can find a beer that's not too high ABV-wise (the Kernel's table beer works for me) and/or intersperse with a soft drink or two, you'll probably be fine to ride home - particularly if it's later and the traffic is less heavy. Robert Poste's Child
This is probably too late to be helpful but there are cycle racks on some of the platforms inside Waterloo. They should be safer as they'll be on CCTV and there'll be security. Earl Aelfheah
I got a call from my wife shortly after I'd left work, to say that she'd locked herself out of the house! So I ended up cycling home, letting her in and then got the train back into town. Actually didn't take too long and meant that I didn't have to worry about my bike being nicked. Next time I will plan ahead a bit better (and hopefully so will my wife). Robert Poste's Child
Perhaps best not to name them here, innocent until proven guilty etc. I probably just have a suspicious mind! hal jehlikakik
never leave a bike out overnight, you'll definitely regret it, thieves can get anything in two seconds, use a boris bike instead on that particular occasion or take public transport. advice given based upon personal experience Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/49523-leaving-a-push-bike-locked-up-overnight/#findComment-785299 Share on other sites
