The butcher fraternity of Peckham offer other products too

For example:

• Nevin's has the most devine Black Pudding I have had in years

• Al Sibitans* the best sausages and meatiest this side of Rye Lane Station (all Halal so no fatty pork in them)

• Dennis (on the High Street) offers a high quality cut of beef that is second to none in my opinion

• Pak (the Aylesham Centre) offers a good range of quality meats

Others offer just as many good products and I am looking forward to Spring when Half Lambs are on sale again down Rye Lane.

In these times of Credit Crunch and Penny Pinching, the butchers of Peckham offer some quality products at a bargin price, and I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand without trying the products from a few of them first. I will be the first to agree that they don't look as prestine as William Rose, however they also don't charge the same prices as William Rose.::o

They also offer other products like bags of Onions (5KG) for around ?1 (depending on which business you shop at) and I tend to go through a bag a month (with little or no spoilage at the end of the month) - Peckham is a good choice for fruit, veg and other food shopping if you want to save quite a few ?'s every week and the Chilli Peppers are to Die for (at least that is what it sometimes feels like the next morning when you are doing your 'Daily Business' :-$)

Also Lobo Seafood Superstore (this end of Rye Lane) is used by a large number of Fish Mongers in the South of London to supply them with Frozen Fish, so again a good choice if you want to buy good fish at a good price.

One thing all of them offer every customer is a good level of Customer Service, and it still pleases me to see how much advice they offer if asked. My advice to everyone here is to try what is on offer in Peckham rather then just dismissing it out of hand.

So Yes, I will join your so called 'Chicken Crawl' just to do my normal weekly shopping down the Lane.

*I still am never sure how to spell this businesses name, but I am sure you can find it if you look.

LOL

So called Bush meat hasn't been on offer in Peckham for many many years, there was one isolated shop (now closed) that did have some on offer, and was soon closed down by the Councils trading Standards team and sadly for the area got negative media publicty at the same time.

African Land Snails are still available and are imported legally by a number of shops (Stella's, BIMS and so on) and they sell really well when they are in stock (normally the warmer months as they tend to perish quickly in the cold)

One mans meat isn't necessarily another mans poison and again don't knock them until you try them. (Lolak resturant serves them in various ways if you are interested in trying them)

    • Yeah but I suppose the issue is that Brexit/Truss moment destabilised our economy and Trump's Truss moment is destabilising every economy globally and rocking the very foundation of global trading. Our stupid moments were just our stupid moments - Trump's stupid moment is everyone's stupid moment. The fact that people have been getting out of gold as well as stocks speaks volumes - gold is normally the safe-haven investors head for but lots are just cashing out completely.
    • Imagine a country voting for something that has a major financial hit to a country and having an electorate and different governments too proud/embarrased/dumb to reverse said decision After 9 years America and Trump might be on a different scale but England could do with a bit of reflection before judging other countries (at a national level.  I know lots of you sane, wise posters are not culpable)
    • The real worry is that Trump will never admit he got anything wrong and, as he did today with more threats to China, will keep doubling-down. Those tactics might work in real estate in the US but this is not real estate. I do wonder whether other governments will be forced to absorb the short-term pain in the view that they need to let him crash things to such a point that Americans go...what are you doing. Although he seems to be trying to mitigate dissent within his own party by turning on them quickly - like all good dictators do. It just seems ludicrous to think this puts the US in a stronger short-term position - I saw analysis that a Boeing 787 bill of materials now costs $20m more with the tariffs due to them only being assembled in the US and the parts manufactured all over the world. Just who is this supposed to be benefiting.  American 401ks are linked to the stock market so American pensions are going downhill fast.
